ANDREW J. (JACKSON) PUTMAN  Center Harbor, Belknap County

He is 56 MA Sep 1843 and is living with his wife Mary L. 53 NH Dec 1846. He is a son of Edward Putnam (2161) and Roxanna Davis. He was born in Lowell, Mass. and was there in the 1850. He was here in Center Harbor in 1880 with Mary. He and Mary are still here in 1910, and are in Sterling, Worcester County, Mass. by 1920.

 

ARTHUR W. (WRIGHT) PUTNAM  Laconia, Belknap County

He is 41 VT Jun 1858 and is living with his wife Lizzie L. Pinkham 41 NH Feb 1859. He is a son of Horace Cummings Putnam and Olive Wright. He was born in West Fairlee, Orange County, Vermont. He was at home there in 1860 and 1870. He married Lizzie here November 29, 1893. The whole family was over here in Nashua in 1880, his mom died and his dad and sister are back in Fairlee, Vermont now. He and Lizzie will be here in 1910 and 1920.

 

DAVID PUTNAM  Conway, Carroll County

He is 52 NH (actually MA) Jan 1848 and is living with his wife Hannah Towle 52 ME Mar 1848 and daughter Cora 11 NH Mar 1889. He will be here in 1910 and 1920, and then state MA as his birthplace. He married Hannah A. Towle here in New Hampshire on September 29, 1889. She was previously married to a Parsons. Best thought is he is a son of Hervey Putnam (2363) and Amanda Bunker of Danvers. He was home through 1870, and in 1880 was single in Winchester, Mass.

 

MINNIE PUTNAM  Keene, Cheshire County

She is 23 VT Jun 1878 and is living with her brother in law Frank L. Lawrence. She is the daughter of Robert and Addie (Smith) Putnam from Windham County, Vermont.  Frank married her sister Ada A. Putnam in 1895. Their folks are in Springfield, Vermont now.

 

AMOS A. (ADAMS) PUTNAM  Winchester, Cheshire County

He is 76 NH Apr 1824 and is living with Maria Snow, age uncertain. Been around all his life. Maria is his daughter Nancy Maria Snow who would be 50 NH now. She was living with Amos and his wife Nancy Robbins here in 1880 as well. No hubby has appeared.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 45 NH Apr 1855 and is living with his wife Ina Lucy Bement 40 VT Apr 1860 and children Florence G. 15 VT Jul 1884, Emma Frances 14 VT Mar 1886 and Harold 10 VT May 1889. He is a son of Edwin Lombard and Emeline Putnam of Hinsdale, Cheshire County. He was at home there in 1860. In 1910, he will be alone in Hood River County, Oregon. Ina will be in Brattleboro, Vermont living with her mom Cornelia Bement and will have Frances with her then. At that time she says she is still married (27 years by then). In 1910, Harold will be with his grandmother Emeline Putnam also in Brattleboro. By 1920 She and the kids will still be there, and no Arthur. Arthur will have married Nellie Austin and they are in Glendale California in 1920 and Los Angeles after that. Arthur will die there November 12, 1954.

 

ARTHUR PUTNAM  Walpole, Cheshire County

He is 39 NH Nov 1860 and is living with his wife May Franklin 32 NH May 1868 and sons Harry 10 NH Jul 1889 and Philip 5 NH Mar 1895. He is a son of Henry Dismore Putnam and Adeline Reed from Acworth, Sullivan County. He is also presently listed by himself in Windsor County, Vermont. May will die in 1908 and he will be widowed in Rutland, Vermont in 1910 with Philip and another son Edmund. The son Harry will be married to Grace Merrill in Park County Wyoming in 1910 and then back here in Epping, New Hampshire by 1920.

 

CHARLES E. PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 45 NH Aug 1854 and is living with his wife Ella J. Fisher 34 CA Sep 1865 and children Frank E. 17 NH Sep 1883, John W. 14 NH Apr 1886, Iva (Ina) M. 11 NH Sep 1888 and Pearson H. (Preston in 1910) 2 NH May 1898. He is a son of Albert Putnam and Emeline Smith. He was home here in Winchester in 1860.

 

EDWARD E. PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 32 VT May 1868 and is listed as a boarder with William J. Esty. He is a son of Hiram Smith and Olivia Putnam. He was shown at home in 1880 in Elmore, Lamoille County, Vermont.

 

EVERETT S. (SAMUEL) PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 51 NH Apr 1849 and is living with his wife Mary Holt 47 NH May 1853 and daughter Hattie 27 NH Oct 1872. They were in Nashua in 1880 and will be again in 1910. He is a son of Amos Putnam and Deborah Hall from Milford, New Hampshire.

 

FRANK G. PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 56 VT Oct 1843 and is living with his daughter Mary J. Moore 22 VT Oct 1877 and her children Ellen C. 5 VT Nov 1894, Harold 3 NH Sep 1896 and Fred H. 1 NH Apr 1899. He is a son of Asa Putnam from Underhill, Chittenden County Vermont.

 

GEORGE (WALLACE) PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 41 NH Jul 1858 and is living with his wife Lizzie Ellen Oakes 36 NH Sep 1863, children Fred M. (Melvin) 15 NH Mar 1885, Lottie Mae 11 NH Aug 1888, a niece Myrtle O. 16 NH Oct 1883, his mother in law Lizzie J. Folansbee 65 VT Jun 1834 and his brother Lyman Putnam 47 NH Mar 1853. George and Lyman are sons of Eri Putnam and Lucy Holton of Winchester. Lizzie Folansbee is Lizzie’s mother who has remarried and is now widowed again.

 

GEORGE H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 53 NH Dec 1846 and is living with his wife Mary Ann Gould 51 NH Aug 1848, son George W. 21 NH Feb 1879, his wife Lizzie A. 25 NH Sep 1874 and daughter Dorothy A. 1/12 NH Mar 1900. They were in Wilton, Hillsborough County in 1870 and in Greenfield, Hillsborough County in 1880, and will be back there in 1910. He is a son of Ephraim Townes Putnam and Mary Austin Shaw from Nashua.

 

HENRY E. PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 71 NH Sep 1829 and is living with his wife Clara Corbin 68 CT Jun 1831. He is a son of Jacob Putnam (1690) and Lucy Brooks. He was born here in Walpole. He and Clara are both here still in 1910.

 

J. (JESSE LEE RENO) PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is 38 NH Mar 1862 and is living with his wife Nellie Rhoda Rixford 27 NH Oct 1873, sons Willard A. 5 NH Feb 1895, Harold R. (Reno) 2 NH Nov 1897 and a boarder Leonard White 63 NY Feb 1837. He is a son of Amos Putnam. He was born here. His dad is listed earlier. They are here in 1910. Nellie is widowed and she and the kids will be in Keene in 1920 though, and she is widowed there in 1930 and 1940.

 

JULIUS PUTNAM  Surry, Cheshire County

He is 60 MA and is enumerated with William J. Martin as a boarder. This is interesting. In 1870, he was married to an Emma in Springfield, Massachusetts. She is alone in Springfield from 1880 through the 1920, but never has Julius been reported there. Anyway, Julius is a son of Horace Putnam (2175) and Clarinda Boice from Springfield, Mass. Julius is in Swanzy, Cheshire County in 1910.

 

JAMES A. (ALBERT) PUTNAM  Winchester, Cheshire County

He is 32 NH Sep 1867 and is living with his wife Myrtie E. Rawson 26 NH Jul 1873, son Frank Amos 4 MA Jan 1896 and daughter Dorothy J. 2 NH Dec 1897. He is a son of James Putnam and Martha Jane Whipple. He and Myrtle were married here on February 27, 1894. He was born here in Winchester. In fact his folks are listed next. They will be in Stafford, Connecticut in 1910 and in Pittsfield, Massachusetts in the 1920 census.

 

JAMES P. PUTNAM  Winchester, Cheshire County

He is 69 NH Jul 1830 and is living with his wife Martha Jane Whipple 66 NH May 1834, daughter Grace R. 23 NH Sep 1876 and a boarder Joseph Piasta 40 Poland Mar 1860. He is a son of Amos Putnam Junior and has been here in Winchester all his life. He is widowed here in 1910.

 

LYMAN PUTNAM  Cheshire County

He is living with his brother George listed earlier. He is 47 NH Mar 1853. George and Lyman are sons of Eri Putnam and Lucy Holton of Winchester.

 

MARIA J. PUTNAM  Cheshire County

She is Maria Johnson Mayo and is 65 MA Nov 1834 and is living with her children Etta J. 32 NH Jan 1868 and Lorenzo A. 29 NH Jun 1870. She is the widow of Lorenzo Augustus Putnam. He was a son of John Putnam and Sarah Priest Capron. They were here in 1870, and just over the border in Winchendon, Mass. in 1880 and now back where they started. Her daughter Etta will be married soon and she will be with her back in Winchendon in 1910.

 

WILLIAM C. (CHANDLER) PUTNAM  Lancaster, Coos County

He is 56 VT May 1844 and is living with his wife Julia A. Congdon 54 CT Feb 1846 and children Walter E. 30 NH Jan 1870, Julia A. (Angie) 16 NH Aug 1883, Georgia M. 13 NH Aug 1886 and a boarder Charles Congdon 49 CT Feb 1851, who is Julia's brother. They were here in 1880. He is a son of John and Rebecca Putnam of Lunenburg, Essex County, Vermont. Julia is widowed here in 1910.

 

ALBERT R. (ROMANZO) PUTNAM  Enfield, Grafton County

He is 59 NH Jul 1840 and is living with his wife Josephine O. Hedrick 59 NH Nov 1840. He was here in 1880 with his first wife Carrie Smith who has died. He married Josephine here in 1887. He is a son of John Adams Putnam from Enfield, Grafton County.

 

HANNAH PUTMAN  Haverhill, Grafton County

She is 67 NH May 1833 and is living with her son in law William H. Morris. She is Hannah Cole, widow of Alonzo Putnam (2754). They have spent most of their lives here in Haverhill.

 

JOHN PUTMAN  Grafton County

He is 82 NH and inmate at the Grafton County Farm. He has been in Lisbon here since the 50s. He is a son of John Putnam and Sabrina Wiley. His wife Jane Weston has died. Kinda sounds like this is the Old Folks Home for the County.

 

HARRY C. (CURTIS) PUTMAN  Landoff, Grafton County

He is 30 VT Oct 1869 and is living with his wife Lena Melvina Dustin 21 ME Mar 1879, sons Walter S. 3 VT Mar 1897 and George E. 8/12 NH Oct 1899. He is a son of Stephen Putnam and Ascha Wheeler from Newbury, Vermont. They'll all be here in 1910 through 1930.

 

MARY R. PUTMAN  Haverhill, Grafton County

She is Mary Rebecca Reding 57 NH Jan 1843 and is enumerated with George H. Stevens as a boarder. She is the widow of George Frederick Putnam. They were in Warren in the 1870 census, and here in 1880. She will be in Portsmouth with her widowed sister Ellen Brattles in 1910 and die there April 10, 1912. Never had any kids.

 

NANCY PUTNAM  Grafton County

She is 87 NH Jul 1813 and is living with her son Wallace 68 NH Jun 1832. She is Nancy Hussey, the widow of John Adams Putnam Junior of Lebanon. Wallace John is a son of John Adams Putnam and Nancy Hussey. He was born June 4, 1832 and will die here in Enfield March 24, 1910.

 

ROBERT J. PUTNAM  Grafton County

He is 23 VT Feb 1877 and is living with a bunch of other lodgers. He is a son of Joel Babbitt (2685) and Harriet Putnam of Windsor County, Vermont. This is up in logging country.

 

W. (WILLIAM) PUTNAM  Grafton County

He is 50 NH Jul 1849 (actually 35 NH July 1866) and is living with his wife Alice F. Temple 50 VT Jan 1850 (actually 42 VT). They are here in Lebanon in 1910, but he says he is 56 then and Alice 55. Anyway he is William H. Putnam a son of William Dinsmore Putnam and Elvira Sartwell and was at home in Charlestown in 1870 and 1880. He was born in Charlestown July 16, 1866 and will die in Bellows Falls, Vermont January 26, 1965. He married Alice Foster or Temple April 16, 1894 in Hartford, Connecticut. She was married twice before and will die March 25, 1916 in Lebanon, New Hampshire.

 

ANN PUTNAM  Manchester, Hillsborough County

Ann Perkins is 72 CAN Jan 1828 and is living with her daughter Sadie (Sarah Frances) and her husband Henry E. Hardy. She is the widow now of James Franklin Putnam. They were here in Manchester in 1880, Hookset before that. Ann is here still in 1910 at age 82.

 

GEORGE A. (ALLEN) PUTNAM  Manchester, Hillsborough County

He is 29 NH Jun 1870 and is living with his wife Nellie E. Tilton 33 NH May 1867 and son Gordon A. (Allen) 4 NH Sep 1895. Lodgers listed are Grace M. Lackie 30 NH Sep 1869, Laura A. Franklin 59 NH May 1840 and Rosabella M. Franklin 30 NH Oct 1869. He is a son of George Franklin Putnam and Abby Hunt Partridge. In 1880 he was with them in Derry, Rockingham County, a few miles south of here. Probably came up to work the mills here.

 

HENRY A. PUTNAM  Manchester, Hillsborough County

He is 51 NH May 1849 and is living with his wife Georgia 47 CAN Sep 1852, daughter Nellie E. (Nettie A.) 23 NH Sep 1876 and one of his wife's relatives (confused print) 23 CAN Mar 1877. They were here in 1880. He is a son of Samuel Putnam and Mary Dustin.

She is 32 NH Aug 1867 and is listed as a lodger with Charles E. Foster

She is 52 NH Mar 1848 and is living with her son in law Walter R. Cox.

 

O. (ORRIN) PUTNAM  Manchester, Hillsborough County

He is 66 VT Jul 1833 and is living with his wife Ellen M. 66 NH Mar 1834 and sons James O. 34 VT Oct 1865 and Edgar M. 32 VT Jul 1867. He is a son of Solon Putnam and Mary Ann Rice. In 1870 he was at in Springfield, Windsor County, Vermont and here in Pembroke, New Hampshire in 1880. Ellen is widowed here in 1910 with the kids.

 

RACHEL H. PUTNAM  Manchester, Hillsborough County

She is 69 MA Sep 1830 and is living with a boarder Mary J. Wellington 31 MA Nov 1868. She is Rachel Hurd, the widow now of Horace Bishop. They were here in the 1850s.

 

STEPHEN J. PUTMAN  Manchester, Hillsborough County

He is 27 NH Sep 1872 and is living with his wife Hattie Clark 25 VT Jan 1875, daughters Helen 2 NH 1898, Hazel 1 NH 1899 and his mother Helen M. 65 NH Apr 1835. He is a son of Sylvanus Putnam and Helen Marr Eastman. They were here in 1880. They are all still here in 1910 and 1920.

 

ANNA F. PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

She is 55 NH Nov 1844 and is living alone. She is Ann F. Upton, widow of Jacob Putnam. She was with him in Wilton in 1880 but he died on 2 Feb 1895 in Wilton.

 

ANNIE PUTMAN  Nashua, Hillsborough County

She is 28 NH Feb 1872 and is listed as a boarder with Charles Mitchell. She is a daughter of John Benedict Putnam and Aurilla Searles. She was born here and shown in the 1880 census at home

 

ARTHUR H. (HERBERT) PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

He is 57 NH Sep 1842 and is living with his wife Lucy Isabel Putnam. 49 NH Sep 1850. He is a son of Abiel Abbott Putnam and Mary Ann Radden, and was born in Wilton, Hillsborough County. Lucy is a cousin, a daughter of Peter Hamilton Putnam of Wilton. By 1910, Lucy will be widowed here living with her sister Clara Shattuck.

He is 30 NH Feb 1870 and is living with a boarder, Joseph Garfield 40 ME Aug 1860. The age is off, but he might be Sylvanus' son as shown in Manchester in 1880.

He is 23 NH May 1877 and is listed as a boarder with Henry C. Pearson. He looks like Edwin’s son from Hillsborough County in 1880.

He is 40 NH NH NH Nov 1859 (actually November 7, 1858) and his wife Ada Sherwood is 40 ENG ENG ENG (actually from New Brunswick Canada) Apr 1860. They have been married 17 years and have Zella 13 NH. He is an engineer. He is Charles Edwin Putnam, a son of John Putnam and Lorinda French from Cheshire County. He was there in 1870 and here in 1880. They are here in 1910 and in Merrimack in 1920 and 1930.

 

ELIZABETH & MARIAN PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

Elizabeth is 60 NH Jul 1840 and is living with her sister Marian 55 MA Sep 1845. Also listed is Cathy Hill 35 NH Feb 1865. They are two unmarried daughters of Barnes Putnam and Sarah Dean who divorced back in the 1860s. They have been here with their mom ever since. Sarah died since the 1880.

 

ELLA PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

She is 49 MA Nov 1850 and is living with her daughters Grace E. 20 NH mar 1880 and Anne Mae 13 NH may 1887. Ella Agnes Nichols is the widow of Charles Bigelow Putnam, son of Barnes Bigelow, son of Gideon, son of Gideon (1877). They were here in 1880. Her son Fred is here in town too. She will be widowed in Boston in 1910 and in Braintree by 1920.

 

FRED PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

He is 23 NH Oct 1876 and is living with his wife Jennie M. 23 NH Oct 1876. He is a son of Charles B. and the above Ella Putnam and was born here. He will be here, divorced, in 1910 and by 1920 will have a new wife Elsie and a couple of kids.

 

IDA M. PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

She is 28 NH Aug 1871 and is living with her grandmother Jane L. Howard. She is a daughter of Herbert H. Putnam and Jennie Howard. She was at home with them here in Nashua in 1880. Gram's name was handy, as now we know her mother's maiden name.

 

L. (LEWIS) PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

This person is 37 NH and is listed as a boarder with Harry R. Lindsay. Thought name looked like Levy but Rand said Lewis. Good Luck.

 

LUKE PUTMAN  Nashua, Hillsborough County

He is 88 NH May 1812 and is enumerated with his niece Emaline W. Coburn. Haven't seen him since the 1850. He is a son of Gideon Putnam and Sarah Barnes, and was born in West Nottingham. He was in Amherst, Hillsborough County in 1850.

 

M. (MARK) PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

He is 44 NH Feb 1855, his wife is listed as Mark 23 NH Dec 1876, daughter Jennie H. 1 NH Jun 1899 and mother in law Susan M. Pond 72 NY Mar 1828. This was a sloppy entry. The guy's name was Mark Perley Putnam, his wife’s name is Eliza Pond. He is a son of Amos Putnam and Deborah Hill of Milford. He was married to Nelly Heath in 1875 and widowed here in Nashua in 1880. He married Laura Pond in the early 1890s and then Ann Elizabeth Pond after that. Eliza will be widowed here in 1910 and will have Jennie with her.

 

WILLIAM. J. (JACOB) PUTNAM  Nashua, Hillsborough County

He is 58 NH Apr 1842 and is living with his wife Dora Tarbell 47 NH Dec 1852 and children Dora A. 22 NH Oct 1877 and George W. 17 NH Feb 1883. They were here in 1880. He is a son of Amos and Dorcas Putnam of Wilton. They are all here in 1910, and in 1920, Dora and her daughter Dora Arlene are in Groton, Mass. Young Dora will have married Frederick Bishop in 1907.

 

RUFUS PUTNAM  New Ipswich, Hillsborough County

He is 73 NH Mar 1827 and is living with his wife Mary Jane Ramsdell 68 NH Oct 1831 and son Daniel E. 36 NH Sep 1863. They were here in 1880. He is number 2040, a son of Aaron Kimball Putnam, and was born in Wilton. He married Mary in 1861. Rufus will die here May 25, 1909, and Mary on August 7, 1915. Daniel will be married in 1912 and will be here with a family and his widowed mom.

 

WARREN P. (PRESCOTT) PUTNAM  Wilton, Hillsborough County

He is 55 NH Feb 1845 and is living with his wife Helen W. Merritt 55 MA Mar 1845. He is a son of Sewell and Hannah Putnam from here in Wilton where he was born. He married Helen here in 1874. They are here through the 1920 census.

 

ALBERT B. PUTNAM  Hillsborough County

He is 8 NH Aug 1891 and is living with Chauncy A. Adams. He is single in Pepperell, Massachusetts in 1910. In 1920, he is in Cheshire County. He is a son of Levi Hildreth Putnam and Lydia Swinington of Milford. His mother died and his dad is widowed here now. Probably kinfolks of sorts.

 

ANDREW J. (JACKSON) PUTNAM  Wilton, Hillsborough County

He is 72 NH Jul 1827 and is living with his wife Sarah F. Whitney 61 MI Sep 1838, daughter Mabel L. Lawrence 32 NH Apr 1868, her children Carl F. 9 NH Aug 1890, Alice P. 5 NH Jul 1893 and another daughter Augusta W. 27 NH Mar 1873. Caleb's son has been here in Wilton all his life. Sarah will be here widowed in 1910 and 1920, living with her daughter and son in law Fred Clark. Sarah Flagg Whitney is a daughter of Richard Harris Whitney and Nancy Flagg. Augusta will be a 'matron' at St. Paul's Prep School in Concord.

 

ANNIE M. PUTNAM  Hancock, Hillsborough County

She is 35 MA Apr 1865 and is living with her parents John and Mary Lindsey. She is a music teacher and says she is married for 7 years. In 1910 she will be here with her husband, William E. Putnam.

 

BYRON PUTNAM  Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County

He is 60 NH Jan 1840 and is living with his wife Mary Emily Crane 56 ME Aug 1843 and daughter Frances 19 NY Dec 1880. He is a son of Ephraim Hildreth Putnam and Susannah Ford. He was born in Lyndeborough January 8, 1840. They were in New York in 1880, but Frances was born after the 1880 census. He married Sarah Carley of Petersham, NH in 1859. She died in 1893. Emily is a second wife. They were married in Fayette, Maine on February 20, 1895. Byron will die here March 24, 1905, and Emily will be widowed and back in Fayette by the 1910 census.

He is 24 NH Dec 1875 and is listed as a boarder with Eliza J. Boynton. He is a son of Edwin H. Putnam, and is also show at home with his folks in Lyndeborough.

 

CLYTIE G. PUTNAM  Hillsborough County

She is 23 NH Dec 1886 and is living with her (grandfather? See 1880) Henry N. Gray. She is a son of William H. and Ella Putnam and was here with the Grays in 1880. She is also listed now with her folks, see that later listing.

 

DAVID PUTNAM  Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County

He is 62 NH Apr 1838 and is living with his wife Marietta D. Wait 58 VT Nov 1841 and sons Algernon W. 34 NH Feb 1866 and Erwin D. 20 NH Oct 1879. Also listed are cousins Sumner S. Harshorn 51 NH Apr 1848 and Sumner L. 13 NH Aug 1887. They were here in Lyndeborough in 1880. He is a son of David Putnam Jr. from here.

 

DEBORAH PUTNAM  Hillsborough County

Indexed as Dehana, but she is Deborah Rebecca Hill, widow of Amos Putnam here in Milford. She is 75 NH Oct 1824 and is living with her daughter Hattie P. Gray.

 

EDITH PUTNAM  Hillsborough County

She is indexed as Erilla 17 NH Jun 1882 and is listed as a boarder with James O. Carr. The writing and spelling is off as usual. She is Edith Minnie Putnam a daughter of Fred Brooks Putnam and Elizabeth Frances Putnam and was born June 21, 1882. She will soon marry Norman Biddin March 3, 1901 and they are with her folks in Worcester in 1910. Her folks are listed shortly.

They are here in 1910 and 1920.

He was born November 25, 1865. In 1870, he was with his folks in Townsend, Mass., and in 1880, he was with his widowed mother and they were living in Nashua with his uncle William J. Putnam (his father's brother).

She is 79 NH Jul 1820 and is living with her sisters Clara Brown 73 NH May 1827 and Harriett Brown 70 NH Oct 1829. Fanny Brown is the second wife and now widow of Barnes Putnam. He died here in Nashua in 1899. All three sisters and Barnes were here in 1880.

He is 28 NH May 1872 and is living alone. He was born here, a son of Levi G. Putnam and Abby Colley. He will marry Ella Martin in 1908 and they are here in 1910. She will die in 1916 here in Francestown. He will then marry Charlotte Moss in 1919 and be in nearby Cheshire County in 1920.

He is 37 MA NH NH Jun 1862 and is living with his wife Elizabeth Frances Crocker, a daughter of Andrew and Lucy Jones Cooker, 40 MA ME MA May 1860. They were married September 7, 1881. They have these children: Fred E. 16 NH Sep 1883, Ida F. 8 MA Mar 1892 and Robert W. 1 NH Mar 1899. He is Frederick Brooks Putnam, a son of Artemus Putnam and Mary Orinda Kidder originally from Wilton, New Hampshire. He was born in Leominster, Mass. June 12, 1862. He was with the family in Weare, Hillsborough County in 1880. Young Fred was born in Wilton, New Hampshire September 10, 1883. Ida in Pepperell, Massachusetts March 21, 1893 and Robert in Antrim, New Hampshire March 19, 1899. So you can see they moved around a lot. They are in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1910 and Kennebunk, Maine by 1920.

He is 62 NH Aug 1838 and is living with his wife Abby Hunt Partridge 53 MA Dec 1846, children John W. (William) 24 NH Dec 1875, Minnie M. 21 NH Oct 1878 and a servant Alice M. Ring 53 NH Jun 1846. He is a son of John & Aschah Putnam. They were in Goffstown in 1870, and Derry, Rockingham County in 1880, and here in 1910. Abby will be widowed here in Bedford in 1920 and 1930.

He is 79 NH Sep 1820 and is living with his wife Caroline 68 NH Aug 1831. This would be Hervey Putnam with a second wife. He's been in Wilton most of his life, and in Milford in 1880. He is a son of Aaron Kimball Putnam. He is here widowed again in 1910 at age 89.

There is no information beyond the fact that this person is a servant of James O. Reed, Jr. Handwriting is not the best on these records. Jerome C. Putnam was in Hollis in 1880, and in Nashua in 1910. This is my best bet. He is a son of Cyrus Putnam and Lucinda Tarble. He was born April 28, 1834 in Wilton, and would be 65 NH now.

He is 48 NH MA ME Mar 1852 and is living with his wife Susan M. Lullibridge 41 CAN NY NH Nov 1858, children Leon H. 21 NH Feb 1879, Amy L. 6 NH, his mother Lydia J. Bryant 76 ME Mar 1824 and a boarder George H. Moses 45 NH NH NH Apr 1855 and divorced. He was in Manchester in 1880. They are here in 1910 and 1920. He is a son of William Henry Putnam of the Yorkshire England branch of the family. The son Leon is a telegraph operator and will get married in a year and then be in Lowell, Mass. in 1910 and 1920.

He is 80 NH Dec 1819 and is living with his wife Alicia S. Kendall 58 (age is 68-70) MA Dec 1841 and ‘boarders’ Joshua H. (Holton) Putnam 70 MA Nov 1829 and Mary Ann Putnam 76 NH Jun 1823. Alicia is his second wife and will be widowed here in 1910. Joshua (2214) and Mary Ann (2212) are children of Joshua Putnam number 938 of Danvers

He is 57 NH Nov 1841 and is listed as the father in law of Jesse O. Chickering. His daughter Nellie had married Jesse. He is Levi Hildreth Putnam, son of Ephraim Hildreth Putnam of Lyndeborough. His wife Lydia has died in the past few years. Levi will die here in 1911 himself.

He is 43 NH Oct 1856 and is living with his wife Nettie or Nellie W. Hubbard 42 NH May 1858 and daughters Lora or Laura 15 NH Mar 1885 and Elmira 6 NH Jul 1893. He is a son of William Dismore Putnam from Acworth, Sullivan County. They are here in 1910.

 

HENRY J. (JASPER) PUTMAN  Concord, Merrimack County

He is 38 OH Jan 1862. His wife Lillian Sherman is 35 IL Feb 1865 is here too. They are enumerated with Mary E. Gilmore as boarders. He is a son of Harrison Kimball Putnam and Henrietta Crippen. The family was from Worcester County, Mass. then went to Kansas about 1878. Henry was there with the family in 1880. Guess he missed the East and returned here. He will be here and then he will get a divorce and be by himself here in 1920. Then he will head out to Kansas where his family is and, in 1930 be with his brother Edward in Kansas where he will remain.

MARIA PUTNAM  Concord, Merrimack County

She is 69 ME Sep 1830 and is living alone. She is an unmarried daughter of Nehemiah Putnam from Rumford, Maine. The family was shown here in Concord in the 1860 through 1880 census. Ed Putnam found a picture taken of her. The inscription reads: “Marie F. Putnam was the only woman among 300 employees of the Abbot-Downing Co., makers of the famous Concord Stagecoaches. From 1865 to 1895, Putnam stitched leather for every stagecoach that rolled out of the Concord, New Hampshire factory—including those bought by Wells Fargo & Company.”

 

SALLIE W. PUTMAN  Concord, Merrimack County

She is 79 NH May 1821 and is living with her children Mary E. 46 NH Aug 1845 and David H. 40 NH Aug 1861. She is Sarah Brown, the widow of David Putnam from here. She was widowed here in 1880 as well. She will still be here with Mary in 1910 at age 88. David was a son of Timothy Putnam (1935) and Rachel Dascomb of Lyndeborough.

 

WARREN F. PUTNAM  Concord, Merrimack County

He is 52 NH Dec 1847 and is in the New Hampshire State Prison as a prisoner. He is an adopted son of Lorenzo Perry Putnam. Perry had married Lucy Harris in late 1849 or early 1850. Lucy had married Joseph Bean in Andover in 1844, and Warren was their child. He changed his name to Putnam. His death certificate in Boston in 1903 states his parents were Joseph Bean and Lucy S. D. Harris.

He is 54 NH May 1846 and is living with Elbert Wetherbee as a boarder. He was single here in 1880 too. If so, he is probably the son of Rufus and Lydia Putnam of Hopkinton.

He is 46 VT Jul 1853 and is living with his wife Georgia E. Hanson 39 NH Apr 1861 and daughters Carrie M. 10 NH Sep 1889 and Hazel O. 7/12 NH Oct 1899. He is a son of Amos Putnam from Thetford, Orange County, Vermont. He was in Lebanon, NH in 1870 and married Georgia here in 1882. They are here through 1920.

 

Z. (ZENAS V.) and ERNEST L. PUTNAM  Concord, Merrimack County

Zenas is 36 MA December 2, 1863 and his brother Ernest Lee 23 MA July 3, 1876 enumerated with Frank A. Martin. They are sons of Vaughan Greenleaf Putnam and Mary Vaughan of Freeman, Franklin County, Maine. They were with their folks in Lowell, Massachusetts in 1880. Zenas will marry Grace Little here on September 10, 1900, and they will be here in Concord in 1910 through 1930 at least. Ernest will marry Myrtle E. Robinson here June 16, 1901. They will be in North Woodstock, Grafton County New Hampshire in1910and then back here in Concord in 1920 and 1930. He will die in Warner, Merrimac County June 9, 1940.

He is 66 NH Jul 1833 and is listed as a boarder of George M. Gaffney. He is a son of Benjamin Putnam and Sally Tenney of Wilmot, Merrimack County. He was here in Wilmont through 1870 and married to Mary Cheney, and then single in 1880 when he was in Placer County, California with his brother Samuel, and is now back here,

She is 28 NH Jan 1872 and is living with George F. Munsey as a servant. She is a daughter of Rufus and Mary Ann Putnam from New Ipswich. She was home in 1880, and in 1910 back there with her brother Daniel and by herself there in 1920. She never married.

LEWIS PUTNAM  Hookset, Merrimack County

He is 42 NH Jun 1858 and is living with his wife Vina E. McLaughlin 35 NH Dec 1864, sons Leslie H. 18 NH Aug 1881, Edwin L. 11 NH Aug 1888 and his father Hiram 74 MA Jul 1825. Let's start with Hiram. His folks were William Putnam and Susan Briggs (the Yorkshire Branch). He was born in Sharon, Mass. in 1825. He was in Walpole, Mass. in the 1850. In 1851 he married Lucy Ann Bryant of Maine in Boston. They went to join his father in Hookset, New Hampshire, where Lewis was born, and then moved to Hubbardston, Worcester County Massachusetts in the 1880s. They are in Dunbarton in 1910.

 

HIRAM PUTNAM  Rockingham County

He is 60 MA Jan 1840 and is enumerated with Jane A. Choate as a boarder. He is a son of Ebenezer Putnam and Betsy Cross of Danvers, Massachusetts. He was at home with his widowed mom in 1850 in Danvers.

She is 56 NH May 1844 and is enumerated with John Watson as a boarder. She is Laura Sophia Carleton, the widow of George T. D. Putnam. Her single sister Lois A. Carleton 57 NH is boarding with her. She and George were married here in 1866 and were here in Plaistow in 1870 and 1880 living with her parents Hiram and Abigail Carleton. Then he died in April 1881.

She is 50 NH Feb 1850 and is living with her children Thorndike 17 NH Aug 1882, Howard 13 NH Oct 1886 and Maude S. 12 NH Mar 1888. She is Mary Emma Moores, the widow of Oliver Putnam, only son of Henry Putnam and Meribah Ayers from here. Henry's dad was named Thorndike. Oliver and Mary were here in the 1880. They are here in 1920 living under Howard's listing. Young Thorndike will be in Palm Beach County, Florida in 1920.

She is 71 MA Aug 1828 and is living with her granddaughter Alice J. 15 NH May 1885. She is Sarah E. Stearns, the widow of Willard Putnam. They were together in Hookset, Merrimac County in 1880. He died here in Londonderry August 23, 1899. She will be in Manchester by 1910 at age 81.

He is 54 MA Nov 1845 and is living with his wife Abbie E. 48 NH Jul 1851. He is a son of Orin or Orrin Putnam and Sarah Nourse. He was born November 4, 1845. He married Abigail E. Wingate of Farmington December 4, 1870. Orin was a son of Matthew Putnam 3rd and his wife Hannah. The line goes back Orin > Matthew > Matthew Jr. (1993) > Matthew (835) > Phineas > Stephen > Benjamin > Nathaniel > John Putnam. He was here in 1870 with his brother George in 1870, and married here in 1880. They are both here in 1910, and Abbie will be here widowed in 1920.

 

JENNIE PUTNAM  Dover, Strafford County

She is 63 NH Oct 1836 and is enumerated with Edward A. Gordon as a lodger. She is Esther Jane Yeaw the widow of Thomas Leonard Putnam from Sutton Massachusetts. They were married there January 1, 1873. He died in Worcester Massachusetts on October 17, 1873. She will die here August 26, 1907.

He is a son of Samuel Putnam (2593) and Annette Minard of Charlestown. He was home there in 1870. They have been married 13 years and will be here through the 1920s.

He will be in Acworth in 1910 and Claremont in 1920. Catherine is a Putnam, a daughter of Charles Putnam and Sarah Graves of Lempster.

She is 70 NH Feb 1830 and is listed as an inmate at Claremont Cottage Hospital. She is the widow of James Baker Putnam. They were from here and were in Washington DC in 1880. He died in 1890 and she came back here. She is in an Invalid’s Home in Keene in 1910.

 

ADALINE M. PUTMAN  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 65 NH Jul 1834 and is living alone. She will be here again in 1920 at age 85 living with her daughter Jane Wheeler. She is Adaline Melissa Reed, the widow of Henry Dinsmore Putnam. Henry was number 2610, son of Oliver Putnam (1166) and Catherine Dinsmore of Charlestown. Henry died during the Civil War on August 29, 1863 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

 

ALMA PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 7/12 NH Oct 1899 and is living with her grandfather John Hoskins. She will be here in 1920, but John will be listed as her uncle then. Really looks as if her folks, whomever they were, virtually abandoned her at birth. Rand Putnam found the mother's death record and she had the same name, Alma Hoskins. This led to the marriage record where she married Clarence N. Putnam born about 1877 in Claremont. It looks like this family from Italy in 1880 NH:  JOHN G. P. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County  He is 40 IRL (really Italy) and is living with his wife Ellen White 38 NH, Willie E. 12 NH, Mary B. 10 NH and Clarence 3 NH. They were in Acworth in 1870 and he was listed as being born in Italy then. He is here again, but widowed, in 1900. He will be married to Katie Lougee here in 1910.

        

CELIA E. (ESTELLA) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 38 NH and is living with her daughter Vera M. 12 MN May 1888. She is Celia Estella Johnson who was married to Clarence Simeon Putnam and was with him in Norman County, Minnesota in 1885. They split and he is in Cass County North Dakota with another wife Bertha Townsend now in 1900.

 

D. W. (DEAN WALTON) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 16 VT May 1884 and is enumerated with Samuel and Harriet Richardson. Also here are his sister Minnie M. 18 VT Sep 1881, and his brothers Earl 17 VT Sep 1882, Samuel R. 14 VT Jul 1885. These are all kids of Elmore Watson Putman and Medora Emma McIntire. Their dad was single in Windsor Vermont in 1880 and then married shortly afterwards. Both their folks died in 1897, and they were taken in by their uncle. Elmore was a son of Dexter Buckley Putnam and Abigail Wiley from here in Sullivan County. Also here is Abbie McIntire 58 NH and single. She is listed as a sister in law and is Harriet’s sister. Anyway, Dean will be getting married in 1919 to a Canadian gal, Esther Lemmon Shedd, go to Canada and then be in Lynn Massachusetts in 1930. Earl and Samuel will be married here in 1910 through 1930. Minnie will marry Edward Eames here in Claremont October 31, 1906.

Listed as 68 NH Sep 1831 and living with Amy B. Fitch 66 NH Apr 1843, a boarder. She is an unwed daughter of Sumner Putnam. She was home with him in 1880.

 

JOHN G. P. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 59 ITALY Aug 1840 and is living alone. He was married here in 1880. Now Ellen and the kids are not to be found here in the state. He says he is widowed though. He will marry Katie Lougee in Boston December 31, 1908 and they are here in 1910.

 

GROSVENOR PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 60 NH Aug 1839 and is living with his wife Eliza W. 54 NY Nov 1845, children Stella E. 25 NH Oct 1874, William H. 23 NH Dec 1876, Simeon D. 19 NH Mar 1881 and grandson George 11 NH Apr 1889. John Grosvenor Junior was here in 1880. The grandson would probably belong to John Grosvenor 3rd who is missing here, but would be 37 now, and will be back here in 1920. In 1910 John 3rd is in Lake Williams North Dakota.

 

PRESCOTT PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 58 NH Jun 1842 and is living with his wife Emily Philinda Cutting 57 NH Jan 1843 and sons Herbert W. P. 23 NH Jun 1876 and Byron J. 22 NH Mar 1878. He is a son of John Grosvenor Putnam Jr. They were here in 1880. Byron will be in Alhambra, California in 1920.

 

THANKFUL PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 67 NH Mar 1833 and is enumerated with James M. Perkins. She is Thankful Ryder, second wife and now widow of Charles Prescott Putnam (2749) from here in Claremont. He died back in 1877.

 

WILLIE E. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 31 NH Aug 1868 and is living with his wife Nellie J. 32 NH Aug 1867 and daughters Hazel I. 8 NH Jun 1891 and Marguerite 7 NH Feb 1893. Marguerite was born February 12, 1893 and will marry William H. George. He is a son of John and Ellen Putnam, and was shown at home in Acworth, Sullivan County in 1870, and in Claremont in 1880. His dad was born in Ireland. He married Nelly J. Weld here March 5, 1889. In 1920 he will be in Windham County, Vermont with a new wife, Mary L., and a son, Prescott C. born in New York in 1906. Don't know when Nellie died, or when he headed to New York or when he came back east to Vermont. In 1910, Hazel and Prescott are in Broome County, New York listed as ‘boarders’ with Mary Jameson and no relationship is shown. She was widowed herself and looks to be the gal Willie will marry and take to Vermont with him. Probably a good story here somewhere.

He is now 65 NH NH NH April 1835, Antionette Longcoy his wife is 57 OH Dec 1842, Abbie 19 NH Jan 1881, Nellie 14 NH Dec 1885, and John D. 12 NH Nov 1887. He is a son of John Liscomb Putnam and Adeline Sumner. Been here since he was born. Antoinette will be widowed here in 1910 with her son John.

 

CAROLINE A. PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

She is 58 NH Jun 1841 and is listed as a boarder with Clement B. Chase. She is Caroline Ann Cooper, widow of Stillman Putnam (#2798) of Croydon.

 

FLORA J. PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

She is Flora Jane Houghton, the widow of Freidel S. Putnam. She is 36 VT Feb 1864 and is living with her sons Charles V. 16 NH Jul 1883 and Clayton P. 14 NH Apr 1886. Francis Dana 34 (East India) Mar 1866 is listed as a lodger. She'll be widowed in Newport with Clayton in 1910 and 1920. The son Charles will be in Cleveland Ohio in 1910 through 1930 and still single. The son Clayton will be there too in 1930. Fred or Freidel S. Putnam was the son of Stillman Putnam (2798) and Caroline Cooper from here in Croydon. He married Flora here on August 17, 1882.

 

FRANK G. PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 27 NH Jan 1873 and is living with George Adams 47 VT May 1853 and Fred Putnam 22 NH Feb 1878. They are both listed as servants. Frank is a son of Prescott and Emma Putnam and was born here. Fred's a son of Otis Winter Putnam, and is also listed back home with his folks.

He is 22 NH Feb 1878 and is enumerated with Frank G. Putnam as a servant. He is a son of Otis Winter Putnam from Croydon. He is also listed at home with his folks. He’ll be married here in 1920.

 

M. (MARSHALL) PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 75 NH July 30, 1824 and is living with his wife Mary M. (Mary Matilda Carroll) 70 NH Aug 1829. He was born here in Croydon, a son of Hiram Putnam (1244) and his first wife Rachel Chapman.

 

OTIS W. (WINTER) PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 63 NH Sep 1836 and is living with his wife Lucy Russell 52 Nov 1847 and children Morris W. 24 NH Nov 1875, Fred O. 22 NH Feb 1877, Gertrude M. 21 NH Apr 1879, Ellsworth 17 NH Mar 1883, Elmer 17 NH Mar 1883 and Orra H. (Orin in 1920) 11 NH Oct 1888. They were here in 1880. He is a son of Peter Putnam and Martha Winter of Croydon. Lucy is widowed here with the kids in 1910.

He is 38 NH Oct 1861 and is living with his wife Alice S. Barrett 38 VT Nov 1861. He’s a son of Charles Prescott Putnam from Croydon. He was single there in 1880. Alice is widowed here in 1920.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Lempster, Sullivan County

He is 69 NH and is living with his wife Sarah C. Graves 67 NH Jan 1833, son Charles G. 24 NH Jun 1875 and his wife Cassie Welch 18 NH Apr 1882. He is Oliver's son, born here and shown in 1880. By 1910, Sarah will be widowed and living with her daughter Catherine who has married a cousin Willard Putnam. They are in Acworth in 1910.

 

GEORGE PUTNAM  Sunapee, Sullivan County

He is 44 NH Nov 1855 and is living with his wife Carrie Augusta Barton 30 NH Mar 1870, son Harold B. (Barton) 9 NH Jul 1890, and a boarder, probably her brother, Dewitt C. Barton 21 NH Oct 1878. He is Dexter Buckley Putnam's son. He was single in Manchester in 1880.

 

OLIVER A. PUTNAM  Unity, Sullivan County

He is 30 NH Jun 1869 and is living with his wife Susie Janette Harriman 30 NH and children Nettie C. 11 NH May 1889, Ethel May 8 NH Sep 1891 and Charles H. 6 NH Nov 1893. He is a son of Charles (2608) and Sarah Putnam. Oliver was born June 18, 1869. Susie was born September 4, 1869, a daughter of Asa Harriman and Eliza Bowen. Eliza is a Putnam too. They’ll be here in Unity in 1910 and 1920 then in Claremont in 1930.

He is 51 VT VT VT and a florist. Lizzie Pinkham, his wife of 16 years now, is 51 NH. He is Arthur Wright Putnam, a son of Horace Cummings Putnam and Olive Wright. He was born in West Fairlee, Orange County, Vermont. He was at home there in 1860 and 1870. He married Lizzie here November 29, 1893. They were here in 1900 and will be still in 1920.

 

ANDREW J. (JACKSON) PUTNAM  Center Harbor, Belknap County

He is 64 MA MA MA and a farmer. Mary L., his wife of 38 years, is 63 NH. This is the second marriage for both. Andrew is a son of Edward Putnam (2161) and Roxanna Davis. He was born in Lowell, Mass. and was there in the 1850. In 1870, he was with his folks in Wakefield, Mass. Then he headed up here and married Mary in 1871 or 1872. They were here in Center Harbor in 1880and 1900. He and Mary will be in Sterling, Worcester County, Mass. by 1920.

 

DAVID PUTNAM  Conway, Carroll County

He is 61 MA MA ME, Hannah Towle his wife of 21 years is 61 ME. He married Hannah A. Towle here in New Hampshire on September 29, 1889. She was previously married to a Parsons. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920. He is a son of Hervey Putnam (2363) and Amanda Bunker of Danvers. He was home through 1870, and in 1880 was single in Winchester, Mass. He married Hannah here in New Hampshire September 29, 1889.

 

FRANK PUTNAM  Center Township, Cheshire County

He is 66 VT VT VT, widowed and a farm laborer. He is a son of Asa Putnam from Underhill, Chittendon County, Vermont. He was here in 1900 living with a daughter Mary Moore.

 

HENRY L. (LINCOLN) PUTNAM  Chesterfield, Cheshire County

He is 43 VT VT VT. Grace H. Griffith, his wife of 21 years, is 36 NH, Benjamin H. 20 VT, Nellie L. 15 VT, Don L. 13 NH, Myron S. 10 NH, Clara G. 7 NH, Zella I. 3 NH and Beatrice R. 1 NH. He is a son of Benjamin Franklin Putnam (2616) and Nancy Clementine Dutton of Springfield, Windham County, Vermont. He was in Charlestown, Sullivan County in 1880 and 1900, and will be in Keene in 1920 with four more kids.

 

GEORGE W. (WALLACE) PUTNAM  Fitzwilliam, Cheshire County

He is 50 NH MA NH, a farmer. Lizzie Ellen Oakes, his wife of 25 years, is now 46 NH, Fred M. (Melvin) 25 NH, Lottie Mae 21 NH. His brother Lyman H. 57 NH and single is still with him as he was in 1900. George and Lyman are sons of Eri Putnam and Lucy Holton of Winchester, New Hampshire.

 

LORENZO A. (AUGUSTUS) PUTNAM  Fitzwilliam, Cheshire County

He is 39 NH NH MA and is a granite cutter. Mary Ann Campbell his wife of 6 years is 29 IRE, Mary E. (Elizabeth) 5 NH, Eugene A. 4 NH, William J. 2 NH, Charlotte A. 1 NH and Elsie K. 1/12 NH. He is a son of Lorenzo Augustus Putnam and Maria Johnson Mayo from here. He was here with his widowed mom in 1900, and Mary will die in 1918. He will be widowed here in 1920, and die himself in 1925.

 

ALMEDA R. PUTNAM  Keene, Cheshire County

She is 81 NH NH NH and widowed. She is an ‘inmate’ in an ‘Invalids Home.’ She is the widow of James Baker Putnam. She was from here and they were in Washington DC in 1880. He died in 1890 and she came back here. She was in the Claremont Cottage Hospital in 1900.

He is 49 CAN FRENCH and widowed. He is a hired man on a farm here.

She is 40 NH NH NH and single. She is a cook in a restaurant, and lives in the Eagle Hotel.

 

JULIUS PUTNAM  Swayze, Cheshire County

He is 66 MA MA MA and a farm laborer. He states he is married and has been for 39 years, but no wife is around. This is interesting. In 1870, he was married to an Emma in Springfield, Massachusetts. She is alone in Springfield from 1880 through the 1920, but never has Julius been reported there. He was single here in Surry in 1900. Anyway, Julius is a son of Horace Putnam (2175) and Clarinda Boice from Springfield, Mass.

 

HENRY E. PUTNAM  Walpole, Cheshire County

He is 82 NH NH NH and Clara Corbin, his wife of 53 years now, is 78 NH. Wow. He is a son of Jacob Putnam (1690) and Lucy Brooks. He was born here in Walpole.

 

SARDINE PUTNAM  Westmoreland, Cheshire County

He is now 48 VT VT VT, Mary his second wife (married 6 years) is 32 MA IRE IRE. They have a son from her first marriage, Earl Britton 10 NH. He is a son of Benjamin Putnam and Nancy Clementine Dutton. He was born in Springfield, Windham County, Vermont and was there through the 1900 census. His first wife, Emma Pierce, seems to have died. They are here still in 1920.

He is 55 NH NH NH and a farmer. Ella J. Fisher, his wife of 25 years, is 46 CA, Preston (Pearson) 11 NH. Ella’s father James Fisher 80 MA is with them. He is a son of Albert Putnam and Emeline Smith. He was born here in Winchester. They are here still in 1920.

He is 32 NH NH NH and works in a saw mill. Ida, his wife of 10 years, is 28 NH, Ralph 6 NH, Robert 8 NH, Elsie 5 NH, Winifred 3 NH. Can’t find him before or after this census, either here or Mass. or Vermont.

She is 32 MA MA MA and boarding. She states she has been married for 8 years, but there is no husband with her.

He is now 79 NH NH NH. He is widowed as his wife Martha Jane Whipple has died since 1900. He is a son of Amos Putnam Junior and has been here in Winchester all his life.

He is 48 NH NH MA. Nellie Rhoda Rixford his wife of 15 years is 37 NH, and they have Willard A. 14 NH, Harold R. (Reno) 12 NH, Herschell (Marshall) 8 NH, Bertha 6 NH, Marilyn 5 NH, Clarence E. 3 NH. He is a son of Amos Putnam. He was born here. They were here in 1900, and by 1920 Nellie will be widowed with the kids in Keene.

He is 23 NH NH CA. Almira D., his wife of 2 years is 23 NH, Florence their daughter is 1 6/12 NH. He is a son of Charles E. Putnam and Ella Jane Fisher, and was born here in Winchester. They are in Marlborough, Cheshire County in 1920. They are back here in 1930.

 

JULIA A. PUTNAM  Lancaster, Coos County

She is 64 CT CT CT, Angie J. (Julia) 26 NH and Georgia M. 23 NH. Julia Ann Congdon is widowed now, but was married to William Chandler Putnam here in 1880 and 1900. Her widowed brother Charles Congdon 57 CT is still with her. As a matter of fact there are 6 more Congdon families on this page, all kin from Connecticut.

 

ARCHIE PUTMAN  Northumberland, Coos County

He is 20 ME ME ME and has been married one year to Bernadine Ellingwood 18 NH. They live with her folks, and will be here in Coos County in 1920. He is a son of Albert Putnam and Amy Reed from Rumford, Oxford County Maine. In 1900 he was with his father Albert who was divorced at that point. They were living with his grandparents Francis Putnam and Eunice Towne.

 

GRACE G. PUTNAM  Stratford, Coos County

She is 20 CAN and has been married for 8 months. She is a niece of Thomas and Betsy Atkinson from Canada. Also here is Nettie Merrill who is her mother. Now, look at the 1920 listing for Harry Putnam in Epping, Rockingham County. His wife is Grace Merrill who is then 30 CAN. Bingo this is her. Right now she and Harry are listed in Park County, Wyoming. They will be in Epping, as I said, in 1920 with a son born in 1911 in Vermont and a couple more born in Wyoming. Harry is a son of Arthur O. Putnam and May Franklin from Sullivan and then Cheshire County New Hampshire. As I said, they are in Epping in 1920.

 

CHARLES H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Enfield, Grafton County

He is 64 NH NH NH and is a traveling optician. Mary Ellen Dunn, his wife of 28 years is now 52 CAN, and they have Mabel N. 17 MA, Nellie May 15 MA, and Charles J. 14 MA. He is Charles Henry Putnam, son of John Adams Jr. and Nancy Hussey. He was born here in Enfield. They were in Medford, Mass. in 1900, and will be here still in Enfield in 1920. Nellie May was born in Worcester in 1895. She will marry a Boudreau and then William Ilby.

 

HERBERT PUTNAM  Enfield, Grafton County

Herbert is 34 NH NH VT and has his son Wayne 11 NH with him. He says he is married and has been for 13 years. He is a cobbler. I don’t find either in 1900 or 1920, and the name really looks like Butmen. Listing him just in case.

 

ROBERT J. PUTNAM  Hanover, Grafton County

He is 33 VT VT NH single and lodging. He is a clerk in a drug store here. He is a son of Joel Babbitt (2685) and Harriet Putnam of Windsor County, Vermont. He was in a logging camp here in Grafton County in 1900. He will be married here in Hanover in 1920.

 

HARRY C. (CURTIS) PUTNAM  Landaff, Grafton County

He is a laborer 40 VT (born October 17, 1869 in Newbury, Orange County) and his wife Lena Melvina Dustin is 31 ME (born in March 1879 in Farmington Maine) and they have a son Walter S. 13 VT. Also here is his widowed brother Harvey 42 VT. They are sons of Stephen Putnam and Achsa M. Wheeler from Newbury, Vermont.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Lebanon, Grafton County

He is 56 NH NH NH. Alice F. Temple his wife of 17 years is 55 VT VT VT. They were here in 1900, and gone by 1920.He is William H. Putnam a son of William Dinsmore Putnam and Elvira Sartwell and was at home in Charlestown in 1870 and 1880. He was born in Charlestown July 16, 1866 and will die in Bellows Falls, Vermont January 26, 1965. He married Alice Foster or Temple April 16, 1894 in Hartford, Connecticut. She was married twice before and will die March 25, 1916 in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He is married to a Julia in Methuen, Massachusetts in 1920.

 

ERNEST L. (LEE) PUTNAM  North Woodstock, Grafton County

He is 34 MA ME ME. Myrtle E., his wife of 5 years, is 27 MA and they have Edward V. 4 NH. He is a son of Vaughan Putnam from Freeman, Franklin County, Maine. He was born in Lowell, Massachusetts where his widowed mom still is. They will be in Concord by 1920 working in the mills there.

 

ERWIN D. PUTNAM  Antrim, Hillsborough County

He is 30 NH NH VT and a photographer. Alice L. Hill his wife is 30 NH, and they have Wendell D. 7 NH, Lester J. 5 NH and Ella I. 2 NH. He is a son of David Putnam and Marietta Wait from Lyndeborough. He was born October 19, 1879 and was at home there in 1900, and they will still be here in Antrim in 1920 and 1930. Alice was a daughter of James Hill and Mary Blanchard. This entry was actually listed as Charles, but they had taken his info off the next listing of a Charles Prentice and listed him as 43 NH, but the rest was correct. My entry is correct.

He is 72 NH NH NH. Abbie Hunt Partridge, his wife of 42 years, is now 63 MA and their son John William is 33 and still single. He is a son of John & Aschsa Putnam. They were in Goffstown in 1870, and Derry, Rockingham County in 1880, and here in 1900. Abby will be widowed here in Bedford in 1920.

 

JULIUS H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Bedford, Hillsborough County

He is 58 NH MA ME. Susan M. Lullibridge his wife of 34 years is 61 CAN NY NH, Annie L. 16 NH and Harold R. 2 NH. Also here is George Moses 55 NH NY CAN, who is listed as a border, and has been with them since the 1890s. They were in Manchester in 1880, and here in Bedford in 1900, and still will be in 1920. He is a son of William Henry Putnam of the Yorkshire England branch of the family.

 

HERBERT L. PUTNAM  Bennington, Hillsborough County

He is 31 NH NH MA, an electrician in the light plant. Ethel M., his wife of 5 years, is 31 NH and they have Ida L. 5/12 NH. He is a son of Herbert E. Putnam and Jennie Howard from South Merrimack. He was at home with them in 1900, and will be back home with them in 1920. He will have two daughters, but Ethel will have died or something by then.

He is 33 NH NH NH. Mary Ann St. John, his wife of 2 years, is 32 NH CAN CAN. He was single here in 1900, and will be here in 1920. He is a son of Levi Gilman Putnam and Abbie Louisa Colby. He was with them in 1900, and just married here in 1910. He married Mary Ann October 6, 1902 in Francestown, NH.

Annie E. is 6 NH, Dorothy M. 5 NH, Harry J. 3 NH, and twins John R. and Mary C. 1 9/12 NH. They are listed as nieces of Rebecca McGirken. Dorothy and Mary are with Rebecca in 1920 in Greenfield. They are all kids of William Arthur Putnam and Rebecca Reid George. Some will be shown at home with their folks in Rindge, Cheshire County in 1920. Right now their folks are listed a few lines down here in Francestown.

He is 35 NH NH NH. Ella Martin, his wife of 1 year is 40 NH. She will die in 1916 here in Francestown. He will then marry Charlotte Moss and be in Rindge, Cheshire County in 1920. He was born here, a son of Levi Gilman Putnam and Abby Colby. His brother William lives next door, and his folks live one house away.

 

LEVI G. (GILMAN) PUTNAM  Francestown, Hillsborough County

He is now 63 NH NH NH. Abby Louisa Colby his wife of 38 years is 63 NH and they have Walter 25 NH and Ernest 16 NH are still single and at home. He is a son of Ephraim Townes Putnam and Mary Austin Shaw of Nashua. They were here in the 1880 and 1900, but they aren’t around in 1920.

He is 26 (28) NH NH NH. Ella Etta Wilson his wife of 8 years is 24 NH and they have Mildred M. 6 NH and Ella S. 4 NH. He is a son of Levi Gilman Putnam and Abbie Louisa Colby of Nashua. He was born here May 26, 1882. They will divorce, and he will marry Hazel Pearl Berry in 1916 and they will be in Rindge, Cheshire County in 1920. Ella will marry Edward A. Trotter and she and Mildred are with him in Springfield, Windsor County Vermont in 1920.

He is 28 NH NH NH, and he has been married for two years to Mary F. 23 NH. They have Edith F. 1 6/12 NH and Lawrence H. 4/12 NH. He is a son of Lewis and Lavina Putnam from Hookset, Merrimack County. He is a part of the Other English line from Yorkshire. They are all in Worcester, Mass. in 1920.

He is 64 NH NH NY. He runs a hotel. Mary Ann Gould his wife of 40 years is now 60 NH. They have George W. (Winifield) 30 NH and his wife of 10 years Lizzie A. 34 NH and daughter Dorothy A. 10 NH. They were in Hillsborough County in 1880 and in Cheshire County in 1900. He is a son of Ephraim Townes and Mary Austin Shaw from Nashua. Mary will be widowed here in Greenfield in 1920. Elizabeth A. Perham, ‘Lizzie,’ will also be single here in 1920 with Dorothy. George W. will be living in town, but by himself as well. They were divorced. George will marry Cora Alice Barrett in 1929 and they are here in 1930 and 1940.

 

WILLIAM E. PUTNAM  Hancock, Hillsborough County

He is 43 MA NH VT and is a life insurance agent. Annie M. Lindsey his wife is 44 MA. Doesn’t say how long they have been married, but it would be 17 years. Annie was here in 1900, but was living with a John and Mary Lindsay who are her folks and she said she was married for 7 years then. William was off somewhere then. They are still here in 1920. Anyway, William is a son of William S. Putnam and Emeline Donner and was shown at home in Boston in 1870. His dad was born in Franconia, New Hampshire, mom from Walden, Vermont also way up north.

He is 39 NH MA NH and a farmer. Maud Eugenia Campbell, his wife of 18 years, is 35 NH and Martha E. is 14 NH. He is a son of William Henry Putnam and Fanny Robbins of Hillsborough County. He was at home in Litchfield in 1880. He married Maud Eugenia Campbell April 27, 1892. They are here in 1920 too.

He is 44 NH NH NH. Lucy A. Daniels his wife of 7 years is 40 ENG ENG ENG, Paul S. 5 NH and Helen M. 2 NH. He lives right next to his folks, David and Marietta Putnam. He was born here and will be here in 1920. Lucy was born in England, a daughter of John Daniels and Sarah Harris.

David the third is now 72 NH NH NH and his wife of 49 years Marietta D. Wait is 68 VT. They have been here forever and will still be in 1920 living with their son Algernon.

He is now 62 MA NH NH. Eliza Ann Keyes, his wife of 41 years, is now 62 NH. Lillie W. 36 NH and Mary R. 24 NH are still single and at home. He is a son of Timothy Thurston Putnam of Lowell, Mass. He is widowed here in 1920.

He is 28 NH MA NH and a farmer. Frances K. Putnam his wife of 5 years is 28 NY, and they Edwin H. 2nd 3 NH. He is a son of Edwin and Eliza Putnam and was born here. Frances is a daughter of Byron Putnam and Sarah Carley from here. She was born in Troy. New York December 27, 1891. He lives right next to his folks, probably same farm. They are here in 1920 and 1930.

 

LOUISA E. PUTNAM  Lyndeborough, Hillsborough County

She is 83 NH NH MA widowed and lives alone with her granddaughter Susan Cheeney 26 NH. She is Louisa Elvira Cram, widow of John Allen Putnam from here in Lyndeborough. They were here in 1870 and 1880, and then he died here in 1888. I don’t find her in 1900, but I am sure was probably here then too. She won’t make it to 1920 though.

She is 68 VT. She is indexed as a Putnam, but is Nancy D. White who is living as a border with David and Marietta Putnam here in town.

He is 31 NH MA NH and is a farm laborer. Mattie (Martha Rebecca Sargent) his wife of 7 years is 37 MA, Laurence S. 2 MA, and Marian L. 2/12 NH. He is a son of Edwin H. and Eliza Putnam from here in town. He was home there in 1900, then went briefly to Massachusetts, probably Lowell where his dad was from, and then got here a year ago. He was born December 11, 1878 and Married Martha August 27, 1902. He will die here December 20, 1961 and she on August 8, 1946. They are here in 1920 and 1930.

He is 39 NH MA NH and is a postmaster as is his wife of 15 years Addie W. 36 NH. They have Pauline 6 NH. He is a son of Edwin and Eliza Putnam and was born here.

Ann Perkins, widow of James Franklin Putnam is now 82 CAN and still lives with her daughter Sarah 56 NH and her husband Henry Hardy 58 NH. They were all here in 1900 as well.

She is 77 NH and now widowed. Her son James Orrin is 43 VT and single, Edgar M. 42 VT and also single. She was married to Orrin Putnam here in 1900.

He is 39 NH NH NH, Nellie Tilton, his wife of 17 years is 43 NH and their son Gordon is 14 NH. Also here are Mira Colby 16 NH and her sister Marian 10 NH listed as ‘charges’ and as cousins in 1920. He is a son of George Franklin Putnam and Abby Hunt Partridge, and was here in 1900 and they are all here in 1920 too.

He is 37 NH NH NH and is a mail carrier for the Post Office. Hattie B. Clark, his wife of 13 years, is 35 VT, Helen 12 NH, Hazel 11 NH and Clark S. 6 NH. Also here are his widowed mom as she was in 1900, Helen M. 75 NH and Hattie’s folks Joel 72 VT and Clara 59 VT Clark.

He is 32 NH CAN NH, Helen his wife of 7 years is 34 MA CAN US. He is a son of Joseph Putnam from Canada. He was at home in Merrimack County in 1900. They are here in 1920 too, and still no kids.

 

JOHN L. (LESLIE) PUTNAM  Manchester W6, Hillsborough County

He is 18 VT NH NH and single. He lives with his mom Nellie E. Wiggin 40 NH and her third husband of 1 year Charles Wiggin. She has two Holmes sons, Harry 9 VT and Kenneth 7 VT. In 1900, she was just married to Frank G. Holmes and was in Orange County, Vermont. In 1900 she had John L. 8 VT and his sister Jessie E. 11 VT with her. Nellie is Ellen Edith Gannon who was first married to John Putnam who was the son of Alonzo W. Putnam and Hannah Cole from Haverhill, Massachusetts. John was born March 13, 1892 and will die January 12, 1956. John will marry Buelah Vivian Kerr here in Manchester August 9, 1911. They are here in 1920, but I can’t find the listing. They are here though in 1930 and 1940.

She is 81 MA MA MA and widowed. She is listed as an Aunt of Laura (Green) Moore 43 NH. She is Sarah E. Stearns, the widow of Willard Putnam. They were together in Hookset, Merrimac County in 1880, and she was widowed in Rockingham County in 1900.

He is 57 NH MA NH. He has been married 40 years to Jennie E. Howard (listed Eleanor J. now) 57 MA. He is a son of Barnes Bigelow Putnam. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920.

She is 80 MA MA MA and widowed. She is a housekeeper for a Coleman family. She is Alicia Susannah Kendall, the second wife and now widow of Levi Putnam. They were in Wilton in 1900.

He is 89 NH NH NH and widowed for the second time. He lives alone and has finally stopped working. Not bad! He is a son of Aaron Kimball Putnam.

He is now 84 NH NH NH and boarding. He is a son of Israel Putnam and Ruth Sargent from here. He was widowed here in 1900, and was in Woburn Mass. in 1860 and Claremont NH in 1870.

He is 31 NH NH NH and a farmer. Mary E. Alexander  his wife of 10 years, is 27 NH, Benton L. 7 NH, Maude I. 5 NH, and Florence E. 2/12 NH. He is a son of Levi Hildreth and Lydia Putnam. He was at home in Lyndeborough in 1880. He wasn't shown in 1900. He will be in Newbury, Merrimac County in 1920 with a new wife, also named Mary, but younger and from Canada. Maude will be with him and a few more kids, but no Benton or Florence or this wife Mary.

He is now 68 NH NH NH and still widowed. He is a son of Ephraim Hildreth Putnam of Lyndeborough. Been here a long time, and will die here in 1911.

He is now 69 NH NH NH and widowed and lives with Mary Cook. He is a son of Abiel Abbott Putnam and Mary Ann Raddin of Wilton. He married Sophia Jane Gardner and has been in Charlestown and Somerville, Mass. where he manufactured furniture. He and Sophia were there in 1900.

He is 33 NH NH NH divorced and boarding. He is a son of Charles B. and Ella Putnam and was born here. In 1900, he was here married to a Jennie M. By 1920, he is still here and has a new wife Elsie and 2 kids.

He is 75 NH NH NH and still single and boarding. He is a son of Cyrus Putnam and Lucinda Tarble. He was born April 28, 1834 in Wilton.

 

LUCY PUTNAM  Nashua W1, Hillsborough County

She is 59 NH NH NH and widowed. She is listed as a sister in law of Henry and Clara Shattuck. Clara and Lucy were daughters of Peter Hamilton Putnam of Wilton. Lucy was here in 1900 married to Arthur Herbert Putnam who has died recently. She will be back in Wilton by 1920.

 

WILLIAM J. (JACOB) PUTNAM  Nashua W1, Hillsborough County

He is 67 NH VT NH, Dora Tarbell his wife of 36 years is now 57 NH. Also here are their daughter Dora Arlene 32 NH and her husband of 2 years Frederick Bishop 33 VT. He is a son of Amos and Dorcas Putnam of Wilton. They were here in 1900. By 1920, Dora will be widowed and living with her daughter and husband in Groton, Mass.

 

ELIZA PUTNAM  Nashua W3, Hillsborough County

Eliza Pond is 32 NH NH NH widowed and a washerwoman. Her daughter Jennie 11 NH is with her. In 1900 she was married to Mark Putnam here in Nashua. Her mom was with then so that’s how I know her name. She and Jennie are in Manchester in 1920 and she is alone there in 1930. Her name is Laura though.

 

CHARLES E. (EDWIN) PUTNAM  Nashua W7, Hillsborough County

He is 51 NH NH NH and a railroad engineer. His wife Ada Sherwood is 49 CAN CAN CAN (New Brunswick). They have been married 27 years now. He is Charles Edwin Putnam, a son of John Putnam and Lorinda French from Cheshire County. He was there in 1870. They were here in 1900 and are in Merrimack in 1920 and 1930.

 

EVERETT S. (SAMUEL) PUTNAM  Nashua W8, Hillsborough County

He is 60 NH NH NH and works in a carpenter shop. Mary B. Holt, his wife of 41 years is 56 NH and their daughter Hattie 37 NH is still at home. He is a son of Amos Putnam and Deborah Hall from Milford, New Hampshire. They have been here since the 1870s, but were briefly in Cheshire County in the 1900 census. Mary will be widowed here by 1920, and Hattie will still be single and with her then.

 

IDA M. PUTNAM  Nashua W8, Hillsborough County

She is 39 NH NH MA and single. She is a granddaughter of Jennie Howard who is 85 and widowed. She is a daughter of Herbert H. Putnam and Jennie Howard. She was at home with them here in Nashua in 1880, and with her grandparents here in 1900. She will still be here single in 1920, living with her cousin Fred Putnam.

 

DANIEL E. (ELMER) PUTNAM  New Ipswich, Hillsborough County

He is 44 NH NH NH and finally married to Edith L. Powers 31 NH (actually MA). They have been married 7 years, and have Harold 3 NH and Gerald 1 6/12 NH. Also here are his widowed mother Mary 79 NH, and his sister Alice 38 NH. He is a son of Rufus Putnam and Mary Jane Ramsdell from here. Mary will die here in 1915, but the rest are here in 1920 and 1930.

He is 63 NH VT NH and now widowed. He is a son of Amos and Dorcas Putnam from Wilton. He was at home in 1870 and then married to Abby Maria Sumner in Middleborough, Mass. in 1880, and in Chelsea, Mass. in 1900. He is still a photographer, and has his own studio.

He is 34 NH NH NH and a clerk in a grocery store. Minda A. his wife of 6 years is 28 NH and their son Albert J. is 4 NH. He is a son of Edwin H. and Eliza Putnam from Lyndeborough. He will be here in 1920.

He is 44 NH NH NH and a farmer. Lucy Gray his wife of 15 years is 43 NH and they have Walter A. 6 NH. He is a son of Samuel Abbott Putnam and Harriet Parker. He was here with Lucy in 1900, and will be in 1920.

 

HENRY H. (HAMILTON) PUTNAM  Wilton, Hillsborough County

He is 31 NH NH NH and a farmer. He has been married for two years to Alice Staples 29 MA. Also here is his widowed mother Ella H. Putnam 52 NH. He is a son of William Putnam and Ella Gray from here. He was home with his dad in 1900, but his mom wasn’t around then. He will be in Wakefield, Massachusetts in 1920 still married to Alice.

She is now 71 MI MA MA and now widowed. Sarah Whitney is the widow of Andrew Jackson Putnam from here in Wilton. He was a son of Caleb Putnam from here. They were all here in 1900. Her daughter Mabel Lawrence 41 NH is still with them. And she will still be here in 1920 at age 81.

Sewell and Hannah’s son is now 65 NH NH NH. Helen Merritt, his wife of 35 years, is now 65 NH as well. Been here all his life and they will be here in 1920 too.

She is 55 MA US US and single. She is an inmate in the Merrimac County Farm. She is a daughter of Hiram Putnam and Lucy Bryant of Manchester. The ‘other’ Putnam family. She was single in Lyndeborough in 1880 and is in the State Hospital in Concord in 1920.

 

GEORGE A. (AUGUSTUS) PUTNAM  Bradford, Merrimack County

He is 47 NH NH NH. Martha F. Robertson his wife of 23 years is 46 MA, Mabel E. 20 NH, Lucy R. 18 MA and Arthur H. 17 MA. He is the son of Augustus Randall Putnam and Eliza Rand from Warner, Merrimack County. They were in Northampton, Mass. in 1900. They are here in 1920 and 1930. Their son Arthur is in Concord in 1920 and back here with them in 1930.

 

SALLY B. PUTNAM  Concord W1, Merrimack County

Sarah Brown, Daniel Putnam’s widow, is still here at age 88 NH NH NH, and has her still single daughter Mary 54 NH with her. She has been here widowed since the mid 1870s.

 

WILLIAM H. PUTNAM  Concord W1, Merrimack County

He is 56 VT VT VT and a machinist at a machine shop. Georgia E. Hanson, his wife of 28 years, is now 48 NH and they have Hazel D. 10 NH. He is a son of Amos Putnam from Thetford, Orange County, Vermont. He was in Lebanon, NH in 1870 and married Georgia here in 1882. They are here again in 1920.

 

WILLIAM F. PUTNAM  Concord W3, Merrimac County

He is 64 NH NH NH and still single as he was in 1880 and 1900. He works in a granite quarry. He is the son of Rufus and Lydia Putnam of Hopkinton.

 

HENRY J. (JASPER) PUTNAM  Concord W5, Merrimack County

He is 47 OH and Lillian Sherman 45 IL. They will be getting a divorce soon (they were married when they were 14 years old it says), and Henry will be here by himself in 1920 and back in Nebraska with is brother Edward by 1930. He is a son of Harrison Kimball Putnam and Henrietta Crippen. The family was from Worcester County, Mass. then went to Kansas about 1878. Henry was there with the family in 1880. Guess he missed the East Coast and returned here. Lillian will be in Daytona Beach, Volusia County Florida in 1930 and 1940.

 

MARIA F. PUTNAM  Concord W6, Merrimac County

She is Maria Foster Putnam 79 ME ME NH. She is still here single as she has been since the late 1800s. She is a daughter of Nehemiah Putnam and Hannah Whitten from here in Concord, though she was born back in Rumford, Maine. Her widowed sister Alma Fellows 82 ME is living with her. She is still here in 1920 at age 89, and still single of course.

 

FRANK S. PUTNAM  Concord W7, Merrimack County

He is 53 NH NH NH and works in a carriage shop. Nettie W. Hubbard, his wife of 21 years is 51 NH, Laura E. 25 NH and Myra (Elmira) 17 NH. They were here in 1900 and he is by himself here in 1920. He is a son of William Dismore Putnam from Acworth, Sullivan County. The daughter Laura Ella will soon marry Frank Elbridge Currier.

 

JOHN B. PUTNAM  Concord W7, Merrimack County

He is 64 MA NH NH and widowed. He is an inmate in the New Hampshire Odd Fellows Home. He is John Benedict Putnam from Middlesex County, Mass. in 1900. His folks, John Franklin Putnam and Ellen Lanagan, were from Milford, New Hampshire. He was married to Aurellia Searles, also from New Hampshire. They were in Nashua in 1870 and 1880, and then Mass. in 1900.

 

ZENAS V. (VAUGHAN) PUTNAM  Concord W7, Merrimac County

He is now 46 ME ME ME and a machinist on the steam railway. He is on his second marriage of 9 years now to Grace A. Little 38 NH. He is a son of Vaughan Greenleaf Putnam and Mary Vaughan of Freeman, Franklin County, Maine. He was with his folks in Lowell, Mass. in 1880 and was widowed here in 1900. They will be here in Concord in 1920 and 1930.

He is 52 NH NH ME. Vina McLaughlin his wife of 32 years is now 45 NH, and their son Edwin L. (Lewis) is 21 NH. His folks were Hiram Royal Putnam and Lucy Ann Brynat (the Yorkshire Branch). He was born in Hookset, but spent his early years in Hubbardston, Mass. They were here in 1900 and will be in 1920.

He is 14 NH, and lives in the New Hampshire Orphan’s House.

She is 22 NH NH NH single and listed as a cousin of Clarista Moore 72 NH. She looks to be the daughter of Frank and Nettie Putnam who are in Concord still. She is also listed there, but there are no other Lauras in 1900 that would fit.

He is now 46 NH NH NH and Nancy E. his wife of 19 years is 42 NH. He was born here, a son of Rufus Putnam and Lydia Goss. They are here in 1920 too.

He is 46 NH NH NH and a dairy farmer. Flora Etta Clough his wife of 11 years is 48 NH and his mother Almira is 70 NH. He is a son of Charles Putnam and Almira Eastman from Hopkinton. George and Flora are here in 1920.

She lists herself as 74 ME ?? ?? and still single as she has been all her life. She will be here still in 1920. She is possibly a daughter of Nehemiah and Hannah from Concord, but wasn’t shown with them in 1850.

He is 66 NH NH NH and a house carpenter. He has bee married for 36 years to Margaret J. 62 NH. He is a son of Rufus Putnam Jr. and Harriet Bailey of Hopkinton, and was born here.  They were in nearby Contoocook in 1900 and will be back there in 1920.

 

CHARLES PUTNAM  Northfield, Merrimac County

He is 30 VT ?? NY. He lives with his mother Mary 54 NY and her husband Daniel Currier 51 NY. This is her second marriage of 27 years now. Charles is a son of William H. and Mary Putnam, and was born in Duxbury, Washington County, Vermont and only 3 months old when the 1880 census was taken. He is 41 VT VT VT, and is a traveling salesman of gloves. Cora J. Solomon, his wife of 20 years, is 41 CAN. Also here is his mother Olivia F. Putnam 73 VT and now widowed. He is a son of Hiram Smith and Olivia Putnam from Elmore, Lamoille County, Vermont.

Oliver and Mary’s son is 27 NH NH NH and runs a grocery store. Josephine Brown his brand new wife is 19 NH. He was born here. They will be in Palm Beach, Florida by 1920 and back here in 1930.

He is 29 NH NH NH and works in a blacksmith shop. Ethel his wife of 4 years is 23 NH. They are in Milton, Strafford County in 1920, and he says then he was born in Mass. He is a son of James Warren Putnam from Danvers, Mass. He was at home there in 1900.

 

MARY R. PUTNAM  Portsmouth, Rockingham County

She is Mary Rebecca Redding 65 NH NH NH and widowed. She lives with her widowed sister Ellen M. Brattles. She is the widow of George Frederick Putnam. They were in Warren in the 1870 census, and Haverhill in 1880. She was widowed there in 1900. S he will die here April 10, 1912.

He is 37 MA MA MA and manages a hotel. Eliza Westerman his wife is 26 OH. He is a son of Henry Elliot Putnam and Abbie Payne from Worcester, Mass. He was home there in 1880, and I don’t find him in 1900. He is in Detroit, Michigan by himself in 1920 and in Miami Beach, Florida in 1935 with a new wife Gertrude from Michigan. Eliza is somewhere in 1920 and then divorced in Dayton Ohio in 1930 and there in Montgomery County ‘widowed’ in 1940.

He is 32 MA MA MA and is a College Professor. Edith L. his wife of 9 years is 32 MA and they have Dorothy 6 MA. He is a son of John D. and Sarah Putnam from Webster, Mass. He was home there in 1880, and I don’t find him in 1900, but was probably off at college then.

He is 48 NH NH NH and a farmer. Lillie Jane Wood, his wife of 23 years is now 42 NH. He is a son of Samuel Putnam (2593) and Mary Annette Minard from Charlestown. They were here in 1900 and are here in 1920 too. He is widowed here in 1930.

 

WILLARD PUTNAM  Acworth, Sullivan County

He is 46 NH NH NH and a life insurance salesman.  Catherine A. Putnam his second wife of 16 years is 43 NH. They have Mildred 8 NH, Harriet 6 NH, Arthur 3 NH. They were in Charlestown in 1900 and will be in Claremont in 1920. He is number 2515, a son of Benjamin Willard Putnam (1138) and Ann Hamilton. He was born July 19, 1863 in Unity, but grew up in Charlestown. Then there is a Sarah B. 78 NH and widowed here and listed as mother in law, but the last name is a blank. Sarah Graves was the wife of Charles Putnam from Lempster. Catherine is her daughter.

 

AARON S. (SOUTHARD) PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

He is 46 NH NH NH, single and a farmer. His brother JOHN LYMAN PUTNAM 37 NH NH NH and his wife of 6 years Mary Eunice Smith 27 NH are living with him. Same in 1920 and 1930. They are sons of Samuel (2593) and Mary Putnam. They were at home here in 1880, and living here together in 1900.

 

CARRIE J. PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

She is 20 NH NH NH and a schoolteacher. She looks like the daughter of William Putnam and Georgia Hanson of Concord.

 

ELIZABETH H. PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

She is Elizabeth Tutherly, widow of Edmund Holden Putnam (2599) of Charlestown.

She is 81 NH and still has her daughter Mary Elizabeth 54 NH living with her as they were in 1900. Mary Elizabeth will still be here in 1920.

 

FRED S. PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

He is 46 NH NH NH and is a teamster. He has been married to Ella Almira Adams. He has been single up to now, but has been married for 5 years now. She was married to Charles Blood who died in 1894, and has three of her children named Blood with her: Bertha 26 NH, Bessie 20 NH, and Beatrice 17 NH. He is a son of James Southard Putnam and Susan Dismore from here. They are here in 1920 and 1930 and Bessie or Elizabeth is married then to Harold Ward.

 

GEORGE I. (ISRAEL) PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

He is 49 NY NH CT and retired. He is on his third marriage to Isabelle O’Neil 34 SCOT. They have been married 4 years now. He was in Charlestown in 1880. See that listing for a good deal more on him. He is a son of Daniel and Elizabeth Putnam. He was home in Orange County NY in 1860. His dad died in 1869 and his mom stayed in Ulster County NY where he was born. He went to West Point, and was married to Cora Stowell. He married Isabelle in 1906 and they will be in San Diego, California by 1920. Also here is Laura M. Laboren who is 85 VT and listed as his Foster Mother who brought him up. He was living with that family in 1880 here in Charlestown.

 

JOSIAH L. (LOCKE) PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

He is 81 NY NY NY (VT NY NY) and widowed. He is listed as a brother in law of William Clark 62 NH and his sister Sophia Putnam Clark 62 VT VT NY. They are children of John Locke Putnam and Phebe Towne from Brattleboro, Vermont. He was married to Lois Covey and was in Illinois back in the 1850s till the 1890s and in 1900 they were in Nebraska. She died and he came back ‘home.’

 

LAURA PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

She is 51 DC NH NH and still single as she has been and will be still in 1930. She is a daughter of George Melville Putnam (2563) and Mary Ann Parker. They were in Washington in the 1850s and early 60s. Laura was born November 19, 1856. Her folks moved to Glen Falls, NY where he died in 1864. She was back by the 1870 and been here ever since.

 

EUGENE J. (JONAS) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 46 VT VT VT and a farmer. His wife Nancy M. Fogg is 55 NH. They have been married 18 years, and it is her second. They have a daughter Pearl J. 14 NH VT NH. He is a son of Jonas Putnam and Mary Ann Rowe from West Windsor, Vermont. He was with his mother on the Town Farm in 1870. Guess his dad abandoned them. He was around Reading, VT in 1880. I don’t find him in 1900, but he must be around as Pearl was born here in 1895. Nancy is widowed here in 1920 and in Grafton County in 1930.

He is 37 NH NH NH and is a farmer. Juna his wife of 9 years is 38 NH. They are here in 1920. He is a son of Prescott and Emma Putnam and was born here.

 

GORHAM PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is listed 56 NH VT NH and is a hired man on the above Frank Putnam’s farm. Best I can figure is that he is the son of Solon Putnam and Mary Ann Rice of Windsor County, Vermont. He is listed in 1920 in Sutton, Merrimack County with his son John. At that time he lists himself as 76 VT though and I know he was born in 1843, so the age here should be 66. At any rate this is him. He was in Springfield, Vermont in 1880, and in Mansfield, Bristol County, Mass. in 1900 at age 55 VT. He will be in Merrimack County by 1920.

 

J. (JOHN) P. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is listed as 69 ITALY and 1 year into his second marriage with Mrs. Katie Lougee 64 NH. They were married in Boston December 31, 1908. He was here in 1870 and then married to Ellen White till the 1890s. He immigrated here in 1858. No idea what his real name was through.

 

ADELINE M. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

Adeline Melissa Reed, widow of Henry Dismore Putnam is now 75 NH MA MA. She will still be here at age 85 in 1920 living with her widowed daughter Jane.

 

ALMA PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is in the index as age 10 NH, but the page won’t come up. She was living here in 1900 at age 7 months with a John Hoskins or Hopkins, and he was listed as her grandfather. Her folks have never made an appearance. She is still here with him in 1920 but he is called her uncle then.

 

EARL M. (McINTIRE) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 27 VT NH NH and a foreman in a machine shop. He has been married for 3 years to Caroline Maria Kendall 33 MA and they have Elmore (Elmore Kendall) 1 NH. They were married May 28, 1907 in Leominster Mass. He is a son of Elmore Watson Putman and Medora Emma McIntire originally from here but had moved to Windsor Vermont where he was born. The folks died in the 1880s and were brought back here by one of their mother’s relatives. They are here through 1930.

She is 67 NH MA NH and single. Age should be 77, and she is an unwed daughter of Sumner Putnam. She was home with him in 1880, and here in 1900.

She is 67 NH NH NH and widowed. She is Emily Jane Dodge, ex-wife of George Levi Putnam. George is out in Bodie, California. Emily has move from Nashua to Claremont and be here until she dies on 23 Sep 1934.

He is 67 NH NH NH and a farmer. Emily P. Cutting, his wife of 41 years, is now 60 NH. Herbert W. P. 33 NH and his brand new wife Euretta A. is 24 NH. Prescott and Emily are here in 1920. Euretta and a son Elliot born in 1913 will be here in 1920, but no Herbert

 

SAM R. (RICHARDSON) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 24 VT VT NH and a machine shop worker. He is listed as a nephew of Sam and Ellen Richardson. He was here with them in 1900, and will be married here in 1920. He is 33 NH NH NY, and has been married for 6 years to Eva L. 31 NH. He is another son of John Grosvenor and Eliza Putnam from here. In fact he is listed next to his mother and brother and they are probably still in the same house as they were in 1900, and will be in 1920.

She is 67 OH NY OH and is widowed. Her son John D. 22 NH is still with her. Antoinette Longcoy is the widow of Samuel Putnam from here in Cornish. They were here in 1880 and 1900. John is married here in 1920 and 1930.

 

FRED W. (WILBUR) PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 54 NH NH NH, Alice E. Forehand, his second wife of 19 years, is 45 NH and they have Alice M. 14 IL. He is a son of Marshall Putnam and Matilda Carroll, and was born in Croydon, Sullivan County December 13, 1854. He first married Mary Codman and was with her in 1880 in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. She died and he married Alice in Northampton, Mass. November 24, 1890. They were in Chicago in 1900.

Lucy M. Russell is now the widow of Otis Winter Putnam from here. She is 63 NH and has Fred O. 32 NH, Elmer B. 27 NH, Ellsworth 27 NH, Orra H. 21 NH. They were all here in 1900. In 1920 she will be with her son Orra or Orrin.

He is 48 NH NH NH and has been married to Alice S. Barrett 48 VT for 27 years now. He’s a son of Charles Prescott Putnam from Croydon. Alice is widowed here in 1920.

He is 35 NH NH NH and a sawyer in a sawmill, and is living with his wife Eleanor Cassandra Welch 38 NH NH NH, children Floyd W. (Ward) 9 NH, Clayton O. 8 NH, Marion E. 6 NH, George G. 5 NH, Galen E. 11/12 NH. He is a son of Charles E. Putnam and Sarah Graves. He was here at home with them in 1900. They are in Grantham again in 1920.

He is 41 VT VT VT, Catherine his wife of 21 years is 40 MA, Marcella H. 15 VT, Clyde F. 13 VT, another daughter 11 RI, Carlton B. 6 RI. Also here is his divorced father 65 VT. He is a son of Gorham Putnam and Helen Rice from Springfield Vermont.  They were in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1900, and will be here still in 1920 and in Claremont in 1930. Gorham is also listed separately in Claremont.

Flora Jane Houghton, widow of Freidel S. Putnam. She was widowed here in 1900. She is now 44 VT. Her son Clayton is 24 NH and is just married to Harriet B. 23 NH. They are here in 1920.

He is 41 NH NH NH. He has been married for 22 years to Susie Janette Harrington. They have Nettie 20 NH, Ethel M. 19 NH and Charles H. 16 NH. He is a son of Charles (2608) and Sarah Putnam. Oliver was born June 18, 1869. Susie was born September 4, 1869, a daughter of Asa Harriman and Eliza Bowen. Eliza is a Putnam too. They were here in 1900 and will be here in Unity in 1920 then in Claremont in 1930.

He is 71 MA and is living with his wife Hannah A. Towle 69 ME. He married Hannah A. Towle here in New Hampshire on September 29, 1889. She was previously married to a Parsons. They were here in 1900 and 1910. David is widowed here in 1930. He is a son of Hervey Putnam (2363) and Amanda Bunker of Danvers. He married Hannah here in New Hampshire September 29, 1889.

She is 67 NH and is living with her mother Lucy J. Bruce 83 NH. She is Lizzie Ellen Oakes, widow of George Wallace Putnam. Actually her son Fred is here too, but got an earlier listing. Looks like her mom gave marriage one more shot and is again widowed.

He is 49 NH and is living with his children Elizabeth M. 15 NH, Eugene A. 13 NH, William J. 12 NH, Charles A. 11 NH, Elsie K. 9 NH, John L. 8 NH, Norman K. 4 NH and a servant Rose Brown 58 CAN. He is a son of Lorenzo Augustus Putnam and Maria Johnson Mayo from here. According to a 1995 obit for his son John, Lorenzo was married to Mary Ann Campbell who seems to have died or is at least ‘missing’ now. He was here with his mom in 1900, and married to Mary Ann here in 1910.

 

FRED M. PUTMAN  Jaffrey, Cheshire County

He is 34 NH and is living with his mother Lizzie Oakes Putnam 55 NH, grandmother Lucy J. Bruce 85 VT and housekeeper Helen M. Latham 40 VT. Lucy was a Follansbee in 1900, looks like she may have remarried in her 70s or even 80s. Gave it one last good shot. Anyway, Fred's dad was George Wallace Putnam a son of Eri and Lucy Putnam of Winchester. Fred will be in Dublin, Cheshire County in 1930 still single.

He is 60 VT and is living with his brother Edward E. Putnam. Both are sons of Hiram Smith and Olivia Putnam of Elmore, Lamoille County Vermont. He was there in 1900. His son Hiram S. Putnam 14 VT is here too. They are all here in 1930.

He is 58 NH and is living with his wife Maud Linscott Adams 53 NH and daughter Dorothy 12 MA. He is the son of Asahel Putnam from Newport, Sullivan County New Hampshire. They were in Melrose, Massachusetts in 1900 and in 1910.

He was in Sullivan County in 1900, and here in Cheshire County in 1910. He is Henry Lincoln, a son of Benjamin and Nancy Putnam of Springfield, Vermont. They are here in 1930.

She is 47 NH and is living with her children Willard A. 23 NH, Marshall H. 18 NH, Bertha M. 16 NH, Marian B. 14 NH and Clarence E. 13 NH. Nellie Rhoda Rixford is now the widow of Jesse Reno Putnam and was in Winchester in 1900 and 1910.

He is 33 NH and is living with his wife Almira D. 32 NH and daughters Florence I. 11 NH, Byrdie M. 9 NH, Dorothy A. 8 NH, Carolyn M. 4 10/12 NH and Jennie I. 8/12 NH. He is a son of Charles E. and Ella Putnam. He was at home in Winchester in 1900, and just married there in 1910. John was born here in Winchester April 29, 1886 and will die right here in December 1985 at age 99.

He is 28 NH and is living with his wife Helen C. 23 MA. In 1900 he was in Hillsborough County living with a Chauncy Adams, and in 1910 in Pepperill, Mass. He is a son of Levi Hildreth Putnam from Hillsborough County.

 

FRANK G. (GILMAN) PUTNAM  Rindge, Cheshire County

He is 47 NH and is living with his second wife Lottie (Charlotte Moss) 22 NY, a stepson Francis D. Johnson 2 5/12 MA and daughter Helen G. 1 1/12 NH. He is Levi Gilman Putnam's son as shown at home in Francestown, Hillsborough County in 1880. He was single there in 1900, and married Ella Martin October 24, 1908. She died in Francestown in 1916. Looks like he married Charlotte soon afterwards.

 

SEWELL C. (CLINTON) PUTNAM  Rindge, Cheshire County

He is 38 NH and is living with his wife Hazel Pearl Berry 21 NH, stepson Alvah P. Berry (later changed his name to Putnam) 5 NH and sons Roscoe S. (Sewell) 2 11/12 NH and Percy L. (Levi) 8/12 NH. He is a son of Levi Gilman Putnam and Abbie Louisa Colby of Francestown. He was born there May 26, 1882. He married Hazel September 23, 1916. He was married previously to Ella Etta Wilson in 1902 and they were divorced. Ella married Edward Trotter in the same time frame and they are in Springfield, Vermont and also were in 1920. Roscoe will marry Velma Pearson in 1938. She died in 1950 and he married Flossie French in 1956. He will die in March 1993.

 

WILLIAM PUTNAM  Rindge, Cheshire County

He is 40 NH and is living his wife Rebecca Reid George 44 NH and children Annie R. 16 NH, Dorothy M. 14 NH, Harry J. 12 NH, John R. 10 NH, Mary K. 10 NH and Ruth M. 4 2/12 NH. He is a son of Levi Gilman Putnam and Abbie Louisa Colby of Nashua. He is William Arthur Putnam, and was born there July 13, 1879 and shown at home in 1880 and was married in Francestown in 1910. Been some problems in this family. In 1910 most of these kids were with a relative. Notice the 10 year gap. They may have been separated or something. They will be getting divorced soon as by 1930 William will be married to Mary St. John and they are in Deering, Hillsborogh County. Now, little aside from the year 2002. The son, Harry James, was (in 2002) the oldest resident of the town of Francestown, NH at age 94. Worked on motorcycles all his life and right now is doing just fine. Hasn’t ridden a bike since 1984, but sure misses it.

 

SARDINE B. (BENJAMIN) PUTNAM  Westmoreland, Cheshire County

He is 57 VT and is living with his wife Mary J. 43 MA and a boarder Cornelia P. Leach 80 NH. He is a son of Benjamin Putnam and Nancy Clementine Dutton. He was born in Springfield, Windham County Vermont and was there through the 1900 census. He and Mary were here in 1910. His first wife, Emma Pierce, seems to have died. Mary Jane is new.

He is 23 MA NH NH and is living alone. He owns a farm, probably his grandfather’s. He is Frederick Henry Putnam born March 8, 1896 in Sherborn, Mass. He is a son of George Henry Putnam and Harriet Freeman who were originally from here. He is also listed at home now as well. He will marry Caroline here this year and they are here with kids in 1930.

 

RICHARD J. (JAMES) PUTNAM  Winchester, Cheshire County

He is 6 NH and is living with his stepfather Everett B. Rolf and his mother Bertha. He is a son of Benjamin H. Putnam and Bertha Robbins. Benjamin is a son of Henry Lincoln Putnam and Grace Griffith and was born in Charlestown, New Hampshire and was with his folks in Chesterfield, Cheshire County in 1910. Don’t know what happened to Ben and now his mom Bertha has married Leverett Blanchard Rolf and they will get divorced May 17, 1923 based on extreme cruelty. Yuch. Anyway, Richard was born April 11, 1913 and will die in Temple, Texas May 27, 1972. He will marry Dorothy Hazel Fannie on June 25, 1935 in Chesterfield. Richard will be here again with his mom in 1930.

 

ARCHIE L. PUTNAM  Gorham, Coos County

He is 30 ME and is living with his wife Bernadine Ellingwood 28 NH and daughter Leona (Ruth) 9 NH. They were here in Coos County with her folks in 1910. They are in Portland Maine in 1930. He is a son of Albert Putnam and Amy Reed from Oxford County Maine.

 

CHARLES H. (HENRY) PUTNAM  Enfield, Grafton County

He is 73 NH and is living with his wife Mary Ellen Dunn 61 Nova Scotia, son Charles J. 23 MA and granddaughter Mary D. Voudreau 5 Nova Scotia. He is Charles Henry Putnam, son of John Adams Jr. and Nancy Hussey. He was born here in Enfield, but obviously spent some time down in Massachusetts. They were in Medford, Mass. in 1900 and then here in 1910. The son Charles was born down there in Somerville, Mass. September 27, 1896 and will be here in Enfield till he dies January 27, 1925. They have a daughter Ellen Selina who married Almondo Bucklin and then Spencer Williams and will die here March 8, 1932.

 

FLOYD PUTNAM  Enfield, Grafton County

He is 18 NH (born 1901 in Lempster, NH) and is enumerated with George Sloan as a roomer. He is the son of Charles and Cassie Putnam from Grantham Sullivan County. He is listed there as well. In 1930 he is married to Helen Gladys Hazen in Rensselaer County New York. He may be married to her shortly as there is a note in the IGI that states they had a stillborn child here in Enfield on August 2, 1920.

He is 42 VT and is living with his wife Grace E. 44 MA. He was here in 1900 and 1910, and are here in 1930. He is a son of Joel Babbitt Putnam from Windsor County Vermont.

He is 6 VT and is living with his uncle Harry C. Putnam. He would be a son of Harry’s brother Harvey here in town. They are all here in 1930.

He is born in VT (NR) and is enumerated as a boarder with Ora O. Fisher. He would be 53 VT. He is a son of Stephen Putnam and Ascha Wheeler and brother of Harry Putnam here in town. In 1910 through 1930 he is living with him. He is also currently listed over in Bradford, Orange County Vermont.

He is 22 VT and is living with his wife Hazel G. 18 NH. He is a son of Harry Curtis and Lena Putnam. He was here with them in the 1900. They are in Lyman, Grafton County with two kids in 1930.

He is 18 VT VT VT and is living with his mother Minnie Colby 41 VT and stepfather Fred Maxam. Minnie was married to Eugene Putnam in 1900 in Springfield Vermont. The must have gotten divorced as he was back home in 1910 and she was probably married to Fred back there then. Ray will get married in 2 years and he and Esther will be in Claremont Sullivan County in 1930.

He is a son of Levi Gilman Putnam and Abbie Louisa Colby. He was with them in 1900, and just married here in 1910. He married Mary Ann October 6, 1902 in Francestown, NH. Her folks were from Canada.

Dorothy is 14 NH and is living with her aunt Rebecca McGirken. Her sister Mary is 10 NH. They and 4 more siblings were with Rebecca in Francestown in 1910. They are children of William Arthur Putnam and Rebecca Reid George who are presently in Rindge, Cheshire County and were here in Francestown in 1910. Dorothy will be a teacher in Bourne Mass. on Cape Cod in 1930.

He is 41 NH and is living with his wife Martha Rebecca Sargent 49 MA, son Lawrence S. 12 MA and daughter Marian L. 9 NH. He was at home here in 1900 with his folks Edwin H. and Eliza Putnam. His dad was originally from Lowell, Massachusetts. Percy headed south in the early 1900s as well and was back up here by 1910. He was born December 11, 1878 and Married Martha August 27, 1902. He will die here December 20, 1961 and she on August 8, 1946. They are here in 1930.

Gerald was born October 22, 1908 and will die here in New Ipswich in April 1972. He will marry a Bertha in 1928. They are all here in 1930.

Young Herbert Lovejoy Putnam was married to Ethel Burtt in Bennington, Hillsborough County in 1910. Ethel died in 1916, and he will marry Helen Eaton in Boston in 1924. She will die and he is here widowed in 1930 and 1940. Barnes' son has been here a while.

She is 47 or 49 VT and is enumerated with Byron W. Berry as a boarder. Should be a dual listing for her also in Claremont, Sullivan County now. She should be Ella Eugenia Putnam born December 25, 1872 in Weathersfield, Vermont.  She is a daughter of Frederick Eugene Putnam and Huldah M. Atwood.  According to Patrick Putnam, she will died there on November 9, 1928.

She is 65 MA and is listed as a patient at New Hampshire State Hospital. She was in the County Farm in Merrimack County in 1910. She is a daughter of Hiram Putnam and Lucy Bryant of Manchester. She was never married.

He is 43 MA and is living with his wife Myrtle E. 33 MA and son Edward V. 14 NH. He is a son of Vaughan Putnam from Freeman, Franklin County Maine. His sister Alice who married George Berry, and his brother Zenas are around here too. They are all here in Concord working the mills. Ernest and his family were in Woodstock, Grafton County in 1910. His folks were in Lowell, Mass. since the late 1870s. That’s where Ernest was born. He was home there in 1880.

He is 62 NH and is living with his wife Vina E. McLaughlin 55 NH. They were here in 1900 and 1910 as well. He is a son of Hiram Royal Putnam and Lucy Bryant (Yorkshire branch of the family). Vina will be widowed by 1930 and be with her son Edwin Lewis Putnam in Worcester in 1930. Edwin is married there now.

She is 79 NH and is a boarder with James M. Duell. She has been in Concord since the 1860s, never married. In 1860 she said she was born in Maine, but says New Hampshire in 1880 and 1900 and Maine again in 1910 here in Hopkinton. No real ideas on her folks. She is possibly a daughter of Nehemiah and Hannah from Concord, but wasn’t shown with them in 1850.

He is a son of Levi Hildreth and Lydia Putnam. He was at home in Lyndeborough in 1880. He wasn't shown in 1900, probably was around though as he and the first Mary were married in 1900 according to the 1910 info. They were in Milford in 1910 and he and this Mary are back there in 1930.

He is 76 VT and is living with John P. Putnam. Gorham is a son of Solon Putnam (number 2568) and Mary Ann Rice. He was born in Springfield, Windsor County Vermont in 1843. He married Helen Clarinda Rice. I don't find them in 1900, but he is single in Claremont, NH in 1910 and also listed in 1910 with his son Albert in Newport.

He is 34 VT and is living with his wife Jennie E. Streeter 30 VT, children Howard S. 9 VT, Velma H. 6 VT, Celia N. 7 VT, Earl P. 15 VT and Gorham H. 76 VT. John is a son of Tyler Putnam and Nettie Parker from Windsor County Vermont. Gorham is listed as his father, but is just an uncle. See the earlier listing for Gorham for the line. He owns a lumber mill and his dad is his night watchman there.

They were in Phillipston, Worcester County Mass. in 1900 and 1910. They are here still in 1930. He and his son are railroad engineers.

 

HARRY F. (FRANKLIN) PUTNAM  Epping Village, Rockingham County

He is 30 NH and is living with his wife Grace Merrill 30 CAN, children Harry M. 9 VT, A. May 6 WY, Martin A. 4 5/12 WY and brother-in-law Jacob M. Merrill 18 NH. He is a son of Arthur Oliver Putnam and May Franklin and was at home in Walpole, Cheshire County New Hampshire in 1900. He was born there July 27, 1889 and will die in Nevada County California January 31, 1962. Grace is a daughter of Martin Merrill and Nettie Wilkinson and was born August 31, 1891 and will die in Riverside, California December 27, 1966.  They were in Park County Wyoming in 1910 and will be in Portland Maine by 1930.

 

HOWARD PUTNAM  Hampstead, Rockingham County

He is 33 NH and is living with his wife Esther Clark 26 NH, mother Mary Emma Moores 69 NH and sister Maude S. 31 NH. He's Oliver's son and this whole gang, except Ollie who died in 1897, were here in 1900. Howard, Esther and Maude are here in 1930.

He is 79 ME and is living with his wife Annie Salter 70 NH, maid Margaret Connors 23 IRL and cook Julia O'Connor 39 IRL. He is a son of Israel Putnam and Sarah Emery Frost of Bath, Maine. He was in the Navy here in 1870 and married here in 1880. In 1900 he was at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York. Can’t find him in 1910, but guess he is back here retired. Ed Putnam found this article: “EDWIN PUTNAM served in the U.S. Navy, September, 1862, as assistant postmaster; served during the Civil War on Monitor Nahant in naval attacks on Charleston, South Carolina, and capture of the Confederate ironclad Atlanta, in Wassaw Sound, Georgia, and during latter part of the war on U.S.S. Portsmouth, Adm. Farragut's W. Gulf Fleet; in charge of U.S. naval depot, St. Paul da Loanda, Africa, 1868-69; on duty on various ships and at various stations, as pay officer and general storekeeper, 1870-1902; he retired September, 1902, for age limit, with the rank of Rear Admiral, U.S.N.  He was stationed for many years in the Portsmouth and Brooklyn Navy Yards.  Residing in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.”

He is 70 MA and is living with his son-in-law Herrick Nichols 35 MA and his wife, Charles’ daughter, Doris 36 MA. He is a son of Jefferson Putnam (2285) and Judith Lamphier from Salem, Mass. He was there in 1900 and in Peabody in 1910 with his wife Martha. Martha is still there now living with their son in law who is just widowed, so I don’t know which daughter he married. Martha is still in Salem and widowed in 1930.

He is 55 NH and is living with his brother John L. Putnam. They were here together in 1900. They are sons of Samuel Putnam (2593) from Charlestown. Their brother Samuel is listed above.

 

FRED S. PUTNUM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

He is 55 NH and is living with his wife Ella Almira Adams 57 NH and her children Bertha Blood 36 NH, Bessie Blood 30 NH and her husband Harold Ward 31 MA. He was single here in 1900, and just married in 1904. He is a son of James Southard Putnam and Susan Dismore from here. Ella was previously married to Charles Blood who died in 1894. They are all here in 1930.

 

JOHN L. (LYMAN) PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

He is 46 NH and is living with his wife Mary Eunice Smith 37 NH, son Harry (Harvey) S. 4 7/12 NH and brother Aaron S. 55 NH. The two guys are sons of Samuel and Mary Putnam of Charlestown. They were here together in 1900 1910, and John has married back in 1903. They are here in 1930. The son Harvey was born May 1, 1915 and will die in Alstead, New Hampshire in October 1978.

 

JULIA E. PUTNUM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

She is 66 VT and is enumerated with Rudolphus R. Townsend as his housekeeper. Julia Swift was married to Ervin Marcus Putnam in Springfield, Vermont just across the River. She was married to him in 1874 and widowed by 1900. She was with her son Irving there in 1900 and 1910 and will be back over there by 1930.

 

LAURA PUTNAM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

She is 61 D.C. and is living alone. See the 1870 census for who she is. Never married and will be here in 1930 too.

 

LIZZIE M. PUTNUM  Charlestown, Sullivan County

She is 64 NH and is living alone. She is Mary Elizabeth Putnam, unwed daughter of Edmund Holton Putnam and Elizabeth Tutherly. She was here with mom in 1900 and 1910. Both folks passed on now.

 

ADELINE M. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 85 NH and is living with her daughter Janie P. Wheeler 61 NH. She was widowed here in 1900 and 1910 as well. She is Adaline Melissa Reed, widow of Henry Dismore Putnam.

 

ALMA PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 20 NH and is living with her uncle John Hoskins. She was living here in 1900 at age 7 months and he was listed as her grandfather. Her folks have never made an appearance.

 

EARL M. (McINTIRE) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 37 VT NH NH  and is a foreman in a machine shop. His wife Caroline Maria Kendall is 43 MA MA MA. They have Elmore K. (Kendall) 10 NH. He is a son of Elmore Watson Putman and Medora Emma McIntire originally from here but had moved to Windsor Vermont where he was born. They were married in Leominster Mass in 1907 and were here in 1910 and will be in 1930.

 

ELLA PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 50 VT and is enumerated with Sarah E. Warren as a roomer. She should be Ella Eugenia Putnam born December 25, 1872 in Weathersfield, Vermont.  She is a daughter of Frederick Eugene Putnam and Huldah M. Atwood. According to Patrick Putnam, she will died here on November 9, 1928. She is also listed in Concord now.

 

EMILY J. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 75 NH and is living alone. She is Emily Jane Dodge, the ex=wife of George Levi Putnam. She will be here in 1930 and then die here September 23, 1934.

 

EURETTA PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 34 NH and is living with her son Elliot W. 6 NH. She is the widow of Herbert Putnam who was a son of Prescott Putnam here in town. She was just married here in 1910 and they were living with his folks. In fact, she is still living with them now. She and Elliot are here in 1930.

 

FRANK G. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 47 NH and is living with his wife Juna 48 NH, niece Pauline Johnson 15 NH, and 2 roomers Mabel Lang 41 NH and Ruth Colkin 26 NH. Prescott's son has been here all his life. He will be here in 1930 with a new wife of 4 years.

 

JOHN S. (G) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 57 NH and is living with his wife Abbie Telinger 38 IL, children Stella E. 11 ND, John G. Jr. 10 ND, Stephen P. 8 3/12 NH, Stuart T. 7 6/12 NH, and Bernard I. 2 4/12 NH. John Grosvenor 3rd is a perfect fit here. Handwriting again may have made the G like an S. But John married in the 1880s, was gone, but left a son with his folks in 1900. Looks like he headed west and was in North Dakota in the early 1900s, and was in McLean County North Dakota in 1910 and back here by 1912. He’ll have a couple more kids here through 1924 and then have a daughter in Montana in 1926 and be in Snohomish County Washington by 1930. Couple of coast to coast round trips. Wonder where they’ll be in 1940. Traveling is in their blood. I have an obituary on the daughter Stella. When she graduated from high school at age 18 she literally hiked from Washington to New York. She later was an officer in the Audubon Society and hiked and camped most of her life. She was in all sorts of wildlife organizations. She lived in Seattle most of her life. She married Judge John Frost who died in 1941. She later married a Russian immigrant Roman Porubov. She died December 19, 1994 in Seattle.

 

LYMAN PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 63 NH and is enumerated with Emily A. Boyce as a helper. The age is off, but the only Lyman in this state was a son of Eri Putnam and Lucy Parker. In 1900 he was with his brother George in Jaffrey, Cheshire County.

 

NANCY M. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

She is 67 NH and is living with her daughter Pearl and son-in-law Chester L. Hamilton. She was here in 1910 and 1900 though not indexed. Nancy Fogg is the widow of Eugene Jonas Putnam. He was a son of Jonas Putnam and Mary Ann Rowe from West Windsor, Vermont.  She is in Grafton County in 1930 living with her brother Joseph Fogg.

 

PRESCOTT PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 78 NH and is living with his wife Emily P. Cutting 70 NH. Been here all his life. He is a son of John Grosvenor Putnam Junior. Emily will be widowed here in 1930 at age 89.

 

SAMUEL R. (RICHARDSON) PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 34 VT and is living with his wife Bernice Ora Webb 32 VT and daughter Lillian 2 8/12 NH. He is a planer in a machine shop. He was here in 1900 living with his uncle Sam Richardson. He is a son of Elmore Watson Putman and Medora Emma McIntire originally from here but had moved to Windsor Vermont where he was born July 23, 1885. They are here in 1930.

 

SIMEON PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 38 NH and is living with his wife Ethel 32 NH. He is a son of John Grosvenor Putnam junior. He was at home here in 1900 and married here in 1910.

 

WILLARD A. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 56 NH a lumberman and is living with his wife Catherine Putnam 51 NH a teacher. They have daughters Mildred 18 NH, Harriet 16 NH, sons Arthur 13 MA, Edwin 10 NH, a niece Marion 16 NH and a boarder Doris Reney 14 NH. Marion is a daughter of Charles Putnam and Cassie Welch from Grantham. She is also listed at home with her folks. Willard was in Charlestown in 1900, see that listing, and in Acworth in 1910. He is a son of Benjamin Willard Putnam. Catherine is a Putnam, a daughter of Charles Putnam and Sarah Graves of Lempster. They are back in Unity in 1930 and at the County Alms House.

 

WILLIAM H. PUTNAM  Claremont, Sullivan County

He is 42 NH and is living with his wife Eva L. 41 NH and sons Harold R. 9 NH and Gordon R. 7 NH. He is a son of John Grosvenor Putnam Jr. He was listed at home in 1880 and in 1900, and was married here in 1910. The son Gordon was born June 5, 1912 and will die in December 1979.

 

JOHN D. PUTMAN  Cornish, Sullivan County

He is 32 NH and is living with his wife Gladys M. 27 NH and sons John R. 7 NH and Lyscon L. 4 9/12 NH. He is a son of Samuel Putnam and Antoinette Longcoy from here. He was at home here in 1900, with his widowed mom in 1910. They are here in 1930.

 

BEATRICE PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

She is 1 6/12 NH and is living with her uncle George Blanchard. She might be a daughter of Ellsworth Putnam and his first wife Lillian Lora Wright. Those folks split about then and two other kids are with the grandfolks George and Emma Wright. Don’t find Beatrice in 1930 or 1940.

 

BENTON PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 16 NH and is enumerated with William Eastman as a servant. I’ll bet the birthplace is RI and he is the son of Albert and Catherine Putnam from Newport. He was Carleton B. 6 in 1910.

 

DONALD E. & DOROTHY PUTMAN  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 4 NH and is living with his grandfather George A. Wright. His sister Dorothy 6 MA is here too. They are children of Ellsworth Putnam and his first wife. Their dad will be remarried by 1930 and they are back living with him then.

 

FRED W. (WILBUR) PUTMAN  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 65 NH and is living with his second wife Alice E. Forehand 54 NH and servant Moses Walker 57 NH. He is a son of Marshall Putnam and Matilda Carroll, and was born in Croydon, Sullivan County December 13, 1854. He first married Mary Codman and was with her in 1880 in Hinsdale, New Hampshire. She died January 3, 1881,and he married Alice in Northampton, Mass. November 24, 1890. They were here in 1910, and in Chicago, Illinois back in 1900. Fred will die here on October 22, 1922.

 

ORIN (ORRA) PUTNAM  Croydon, Sullivan County

He is 30 NH and is living with his mother Lucy Russell 71 NH. His was listed here as Orra in 1900 with his folks Otis Winter and Lucy Putnam. He was here with his widowed mom in 1910. In 1930 he is here married and again listed as Ora H. The name is Orra H. and he was born here October 5, 1888.

 

ALICE S. PUTNAM  Goshen, Sullivan County

She is Alice S. Barrett 58 VT and is living with a boarder Annie P. Rich 78 MA. She is the widow of Edward Putnam who was here with her in 1900

 

CHARLES G. PUTNAM  Grantham, Sullivan County

He is 44 NH and is living with his wife Eleanor Cassandra Welch 38 NH, children Floyd W. (Ward) 18 NH, Clayton O. 17 NH, Marion E. 16 NH, George G. 14 NH, Galen E. 10 NH and Eunice E. 6 NH. He is a son of Charles E. Putnam and Sarah Graves. He was here at home with them in 1900. They were married in Lempster in 1910.

 

ALBERT H. (HUBBARD) PUTNAM  Newport, Sullivan County

He is 53 VT and is living with his wife Catherine Scully 55 MA, son Carlton 16 RI and a boarder. They were in Pawtucket, Rhode Island in 1900 and were here in 1910. They are in Claremont in 1930 and he’ll own a fish store there. He is a son of Gorham H. Putnam and Helen Rice from Springfield Vermont.

 

FLORA J. PUTNAM  Newport, Sullivan County

She is 55 VT and is living with her son Clayton R. 32 NH. She is Flora Jane Houghton, widow of Freidel S. Putnam. She was widowed here in 1900 and 1910. Clayton was just married here in 1910, but I guess something happened. He will however be in Cleveland Ohio in the mid 1920s, marry a girl named Nina there in 1927 and they are there in the 1930 census.

 

OLIVER A. PUTNAM  Unity, Sullivan County

He is 50 NH and is living with his wife Susie Janette Harrington 50 NH and son Charles H. 26 NH. They were here in 1900 and 1910. He is a son of Charles (2608) and Sarah Putnam out of Charlestown. Oliver was born June 18, 1869. Susie was born September 4, 1869, a daughter of Asa Harriman and Eliza Bowen. Eliza is a Putnam too. They were here in Unity in 1900 and 1910 will be in Claremont in 1930.
